Pink Daffodil

Every year my wife plants additional daffodils. Living near Frick Park we like them because deer won’t eat them. In fact we discovered you can protect your tulips by surrounding them with daffodils. Deer and rabbits will stir clear.

She surprised me this year with these late blooming daffodils that have a pink fringe around the trumpet. I had never seen them before.

Bleeding Heart in Our Regent Square Garden

After my fourth year of photographing this plant I finally got an image I like. The trick is a bright overcast day without any hard shadows to ruin the delicate nature of the bloom.

What Would Frank Say Today?

I took this picture of Frank Zappa at The Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh in 1974. He was a musical genius but by the time he died in 1993 was also a political activist. Throughout 1988 he had voter registration booths at his concerts. He even considered running for president of the United States as an independent.

I can’t help but wonder what he would say about today’s climate of partisan politics and religious fervor. As an activist and atheist his voice is missed in the national debate but his music lives on.
