Spring at the Keukenhoff

It is worth it to go to The Netherlands if the only thing you do is visit the Keukenhof. The park is 32 hectares wide and has 15 kilometres of footpaths so you can’t see it all in a day. There are wonderful Inns and hotels nearby if you wish to extend your stay. If you like Tulips go in the early spring but each season offers amazing garden views and activities for young and old. This image was taken in the rain during April and you can purchase a print and see others on my commercial gallery by clicking here.

Hurry Back!

It is around this time of year that I get desperate for Spring and begin to look for signs of Spring returning to the mountains. Last week I saw and heard a Pileated Woodpecker. They don’t leave for long and are usually the first birds back to the area. Soon the winter birds will start to leave and fly north. Then the Robins will return. All these birds can fool you however, they can all handle a little cold and snow. You know its really spring when you see the hummingbirds and I can’t wait for their return. Opuntia Cactus

Opuntia, also known as nopales or paddle cactus is a plant native to the southwestern USA. They are fairly easy to grow at home if you have the right lighting conditions. This one was photographed at the Garfield Conservatory in Chicago, Illinois. You can buy a print of this image by clicking here.

The Devil’s In the Details

Although I consider myself to be first and foremost a photojournalist, I like all sorts of photography. I love photographing animals, sports contests, concerts and scenic views. Sometimes though, the devil is in the detail. Macro and closeup photography provides a different perspective and view of the world. I love photographing architectural patterns and closeup photography of plants and foliage. One of these succulent leafs is beautiful all by itself but when you photograph the foliage of many, the plant itself changes into a natural mosaic. This was photographed at Chicago’s Garfield Conservatory. You can buy a print of this image by clicking here.

Summer Hummingbirds

Every summer we have special visitors as the hummingbirds fly up from the south to visit. They seem to love red flowers the best so we plant flowers specifically to attract them. They visit each day, put getting them to pose for a picture is quite difficult. You can buy a print of this one at my commercial gallery by clicking here.
