Black and Gold City

I found this unremarkable color image in my archive and decided it would look better in selective color. As the sun set it caused the buildings to light up as if a golden spotlight was shining on them.

Run Around The Square

In just one more week our neighborhood will be transformed once again. Each year near the end of August Pittsburgh has one of its best 5k races. There are a number of things that make Run around The Square</em> different. The race goes through the cobblestone streets of Pittsburgh’s Regent Square Neighborhood and then through Frick Park ending in Fern Hollow in the midst of the park.Along the way there are water breaks, cmapagne breaks and live musical performers to entertain the racers.

At the end of the race Regent Square’s famous Hot Dog Shop serves up free hot dogs and beer to the crowd in the park and other local business also offer water, snacks and free merchandise to entrants.

Bodies in Motion Redux

A number of years ago I made a video entitled Bodies In Motion. I didn’t like it. So I remade it a while back and never published it. Hope you find it entertaining. The only video I ever did creating most of the sound track in Garage Band.

Social Distancing

If you follow this blog you know that it mainly focuses on photography and travel. However, the pandemic of Covid 19 is hard to ignore and I would not be much of a blogger if I did. . I know its hard to think about your life if you are stressed and anxious and when experts tell you to social distance yourself it doesn’t mean you have to hide. Some of us will have to isolate and quarantine ourselves but others can have outdoor activities.

Go for a walk or if you can surf pick up your board and head to the beach. If you can’t surf, don’t do it, the last thing you want to do is injure yourself and wind up in the emergency room. If you are a photographer put away your wide angle lens and get out your telephoto lens. Photograph the spring flowers. Be safe, live your life at a distance for a while and don’t panic. And don’t forget to carry your towel

Polo Final

This will be my last post about Polo. Well at least until I attend another match. We had a great time seeing a match at the Eldorado Polo Club in Indio California during our last visit to the Palm Desert. Here are some images from the match.

Halftime at The Polo Club

During our trip to California we had an opportunity to do something we always wanted to do. We went to the Eldorado Polo Club in Indio California and saw a match.

At halftime in the match spectators are invited out to the field to replace the divots, stretch and walk their dogs. We refrained thinking of all the horse poop tat was probably also spread out over the field.

Polo Umpire

During our trip to California we had an opportunity to do something we always wanted to do. We went to the Eldorado Polo Club in Indio California and saw a match.

The sport is a lot like hockey on horses and of course like any sport there are rules and umpires. The umpires are also excellent horseback riders. After learning a little about the sport we saw play periodically stop and a foul was called. These required resetting the ball or maybe a penalty shot. The umpires use this clever tool to pick up the ball and move it to a different spot so they don’t have to dismount to get the ball.

Surf’s Up

We spent a morning in Manhattan Beach watching surfers from the pier. The swells were not huge but I am always amazed that anyone can do it at all. I tried it once in 1968 when I lived in California and escaped with my life. I did have fun lying on the board and belly surfing in and once managed it on my knees.
