Allegro Hearth Bakery

One of the great advantages of being vaccinated is being able to visit our favorite stores instead of relying on delivery. One of the things I missed the most were our favorite bakeries. My favorite for bread is the Allegro Hearth Bakery in Squirrel Hill. Not only are the products wonderful but the people generally seem happy to see you and eager to help.

Looking Forward to The National Aviary

Now that I am fully vaccinated I am looking forward to visiting my favorite places. Near the top of that list is The National Aviary. We are very fortunate in Pittsburgh to house the largest Aviary in The United States. We are members and usually visit 4 to 5 times a year. We have not been there in over a year due to COVID19

Good Bye to The Missing Year of 2020

The worst thing about 2020 was the time lost. I don’t think age matters. If you are old like me you think how many years do I have left. If you are young it is a major part of your like spent in quarantine. Time lost is time lost. It can’t be replaced. 2021 brings us hope. We will hopefully soon be able to travel again, see family, hold events and dine out. I am eager for that return to a normal life.

As the sun rises on a new year, be safe, wear a mask, get vaccinated and hopefully soon we will be set free.

University of Pittsburgh

The Cathedral of Learning is easy to take for granted if you live in Pittsburgh. We drive by it all the time but familiarity makes it no less spectacular or beautiful. Think about it. It is the tallest educational structure in the USA and third in the world. It is also one of the few built in an art deco style. Next time you cruise by take a moment for appreciation.

Moment of Hope #14—Sunrise

We are living in some scary times right now. I am old and have lived through others but this one is somehow different and maybe more frightening. So until it is over each day I plan to post an image that provides calmness and a moment of zen. We all need a lot of moments like these right now.

Every day you can find a moment of hope. Right before the sun rises all the birds begin to sing. I think they are welcoming the day and their own renewa. Need some hope, get up early and watch the sun rise, listen to the birds and breathe.

I find watching birds in flight to be inspirational and uplifting to the soul. I find few birds as enjoyable to watch in flight as Pelicans. These were photographed in Florida and Mexico and processed in Pittsburgh PA

Cathedral of Learning 4/28/2020

It’s strange to be able to stand in the middle of the street and take this shot. No cars, one person walking at high noon. This is our second outing in 7 weeks and still Pittsburghers seem to be following the guidelines for social distancing. This is probably the reason there has not been a big surge in cases here. I hope we have the stamina to keep it up.

Isis and Trixie in Frick Park

I have met these two before. Usually they are walking together but like the rest of they seemed to be properly socially distant. Both were rescued when the owners realized they were severely allergic to dogs but still wanted pets. The story I was told was that Trixie was rescued from a stripper who used her as part of the act. Normally you can see them being walked along Braddock Avenue near Frick Park adding as special ambiance to our neighborhood.

As the daffodils fade, a new sign of hope emerges. This is a Rembrandt Tulip in my opinion one of the most striking Tulips in the world.
