In The Clearing at the End of The Path

In the Dark Tower series by Stephen King he writes about meeting at the clearing at the end of the path. I always thought that it was a wonderful way to write about the afterlife. I certainly like it better than the pearly gates or even heaven. It is definable, it has a clear vision to wrap my mind around. This is my old dog Deuce. He knew his job and did it well and loved his masters. He patrolled the fences of his one acre kingdom and defended us from bears and all sorts of critters. He was not an easy dog. He didn’t cotton well to young people and like most border collies too smart for his own good.

However he was the best dog I ever had. I miss my daily walks with this guy through the woods and have no doubt that at the end of it all, Deuce will be waiting for me in the clearing at the end of the path.

Battle Monument

Battle Monument is a large doric column located on Trophy Point at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. It was designed by Stanford White and dedicated in 1897 to honor Civil War veterans. It is important to remember while touring West Point that many Civil War veterans from the Confederacy were West Point graduates and honored in addition to their Union Counterparts. The view from Trophy Point is amazing and often called The Million Dollar View.

The Chapel at West Point

We toured West Point this week and it was very impressive and informative. This is the interior of the Cadet Chapel. The building was beautiful and well cared for and you can just imagine a service with “The Long Grey Line” in attendance. You have no doubt from seeing the organization of the prayer books that this is a military chapel.

Happy Passover

Today is the 4th year anniversary of my wordpress blog and also the beginning of Passover. Yesterday a guy went crazy and killed people just because they were Jewish. I am not a religious man but this psychopath asked this woman if she was Jewish and when she said yes he killed her. If he had asked me I would have given the same answer.

My ancestral homeland in Ukraine is being over run by a new Russian maniac and the Ukraine is beginning to look like Hitler in the Rhineland. I am not a religious man but believe in God and thinkin’ now is a Good time lord for an intervention.

Happy Passover and Happy Easter.

Kristallnacht

Americans have some dates burned in their memory. September 11 and December 7 are two notorious dates where Americans were attacked, killed and suffered extreme hardships. It is important as Americans to remember these dates and honor the fallen. However, as citizens of the world we MUST remember today as well because it is the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht. Tonight were the first attacks on Jewish homes in Germany. At least 91 Jews were killed in the attacks, and a further 30,000 arrested and incarcerated in concentration camps. Jewish homes, hospitals, and schools were ransacked, over 1,000 synagogues were burned and Jewish businesses destroyed or damaged. Millions of others experienced death and torture by the lunatic Hitler. We must never forget and always honor this day. Things are much better in Europe now for Jewish people that have remained or returned over all these years. However, recently when visiting Italy I saw it was still necessary for soldiers to guard the synagogue in Milan and heavy fences kept out even curious tourists like myself.

Inside The Cathedral Santa Maria Nascente

The Cathedral Santa Maria Nascente is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan and is commonly known as Il Duomo. However, Il Duomo is used also in reference to other Cathedrals in Italy, the most famous being the one in Florence. Although you are not allowed to take Photographs inside, I managed to take a couple of shots before being discouraged. It is certainly a magnificent Cathedral and the largest in Europe outside of the Vatican. It took six centuries to build, just imagine that kind of commitment.
