California Dreaming

There have only been eleven Triple Crown of horse racing winners in history. In my lifetime there have been five but Assault in 1946 and Citation in 1948 donโ€™t really mean anything to me. I was only three years old in 1948 and TV was hardly happening yet so I knew nothing about horseback riding. The three winners I remember are Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a horse and rider. I took this picture in 1977 the year Seattle Slew won the triple crown. Having winners in 1973, 1977 and 1978 made us think we would see winners regularly. Itโ€™s been a long time so letโ€™s go California Chrome!

Go California Chrome indeed! It’s time for another Triple Crown. As I watched the Kentucky Derby, watching California Chrome run with the front three the whole way, then easily pull away from the pack down the stretch, I thought “There is a Triple Crown Winner.” I hope I’m right. I hope everybody who has believed in this magnificent horse is right. Thanks for the post. ๐Ÿ™‚

This horse can definitely win it but I thought the same about Big Brown so I will be watching, thanks for your comment!

I was particularly disappointed when Smarty Jones was passed near the finish of Belmont a few years ago.

Yep, that was another one. Funny how the Belmont is either a HUGE horse race or just another day at the track.

OK – I can’t resist. I wrote about my view of the Kentucky Derby in a post titled May 3, 2014 – Stone Bunny and the Mint. Check it out! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yep! My place, though we host the Derby party at my mom’s house. She’s had a Kentucky Derby party for nearly 60 years. We’ll be watching the Belmont Stakes together this afternoon. Seems like a fine time for a follow-up julep. ๐Ÿ™‚
