Larry Coryell is an amazing guitarist. We have been fortunate to see him a few times with other bands and as an acoustic solo artist. Here he is at the Stanley Theather in Pittsburgh in 1974 warming up the crowd for Stanley Clarke. You can see other concert images and buy a print of this one by clicking here.
I first began listening to Return to Forever in the early 1970’s. The current edition has reunited Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke,Lenny White and Jean-Luc Ponty and added a new guitarist Frank Gambale. This was shot at the Beacon Theater in 2011. To purchase concert photos check my commercial gallery by clicking here.
I first became aware of Chick Corea when he played with Miles Davis. I bought the first Return to Forever album in 1972. The first edition of Return to Forever was Latin-oriented music. This initial band consisted of singer (and occasional percussionist) Flora Purim, her husband Airto Moreira on drums and percussion, Corea’s longtime musical co-worker Joe Farrell on saxophone and flute, and the young Stanley Clarke on bass. The album was great, Corea played mostly electric piano. The music changed with every album which is why I thought they were so wonderful. This image is from the current edition of RTF. He plays a lot more than just an electric piano today. Check out other concert images at my commercial gallery by clicking here.
