Reading is Fundamental

I took this picture a number of years ago before the explosion of smartphones. Recently I revisited the image and created this selective color version. It was taken at the Sorbonne in Paris.

It made me think if today would this young lady would be reading a hardcover book or would she have her head in her phone like most other people.

In the 1970’s I taught photography at the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh and still I am in touch with some of my former students today thank to Facebook. Occasionally I would take a shot or two in the studio while they experimented with lighting. This is a multiple exposure done during one of those sessions. You can purchase a print of this image or see others at my commercial gallery.

L’Université Paris-Sorbonne

The Sorbonne University is in the Latin Quarter on the Left Bank of Paris and a great place to walk around. It is one of the first Universities in the World and dates back to the early 13th Century. The architecture is striking and there are many nooks and crannies to explore. This door is the entry to the Law School across from the Pantheon. One of the things I love about old European cities are these magical entryways they have to enclosed enclaves that date back to the middle ages. You can see other images from Paris on my European Gallery by clicking here.
