Fishing Thieves

I hail from the Pennsylvania Mountains home to, among other things, Black Bears. We know we don’t feed the Bears and that includes being careful with your garbage. If they know about your trash or you feed them, you will never get rid of them. They get lazy.

I think the same is true of fishermen in Florida. The Pelicans seem to hang out around boats and fishing piers, stealing the catch whenever they can. I saw fishermen swear at the Pelicans but others were feeding the birds their bait. Talk about mixed messages!

  1. We wish everyone would follow the advice/rules/laws put out by wildlife biologists, park rangers and others who care about wild animals and not feed them. It almost always leads to problems. BTW, I grew up in Clarion.
