Writing this novel has been an adventure in the unknown. However working outside of my comfort level (photography) has been challenging and a great learning experience. This is how it came about.
As I walked down the lane with my dog Shadow on October 1, 2012 I began to think about what I wanted to do in retirement besides travel, have fun and take pictures. Since I was a child and read Robert Louis Stevenson I thought that some day I would write a book. Shadow and I walked three miles that day and I began to think of conversations I had with my friend Kip about dream journals. By the time i got home I had half an outline in my head and sat down at the computer and wrote all day. When my wife came home from teaching High School school she asked about what I did today and I told her I started my novel. After chuckling she realized I was serious.
By July 4th 2013. The book had 50,000 words and was almost 200 pages. I thought I was done and gave it to Hinda Burke to read. Somehow she got through it and actually liked it. She gave me notes and I began to write again. By the fall of 2013 Hinda got the novel which was now close to 300 pages and had 80,000 words. She edited the book and added some more character development. The novel then went through two more edits and finally was copy edited by my friend Annie Siebert. So after 25 months of work and three editors DreamMap is finally finished. It wouldn’t be as good as it is without the help of Hinda Burke,Susan Weiss, Jess Brazas and Annie Siebert. Thanks for helping me with my Dream!

DreamMap is finally done. The final edits have been accepted and final proofs have been ordered. The proofs are really just to confirm the job being done by the printer. I fully expect to be able to release it by Halloween!
Jake Webber should be feeling great. He was in the prime of life. He was a young successful corporate attorney in Pittsburgh and lived in a posh Shadyside townhouse. But Jake didn’t feel great. Jake had a secret. Since childhood Jake had vivid and powerful dreams that were so realistic he sometimes had
trouble distinguishing between his dreams and the “real world.”
His new pro bono case had Jake feeling even more uncertain and questioning not only his own reality but the very structure of existence!
While you are waiting, check out my photo retrospective on Amazon. A Hundred Place I Went to Before I Died.
In one week my lovely daughter will be wed in Chicago. Although as father of the bride i have few obligations other than signing checks and making a toast. I am too excited for words. This is a life event and a joyous one at that. In addition we are getting closer to the publication of DreamMap. Right now it is with five editors and we are on pins and needles waiting to hear from them. So this is a perfect time for me to take a short hiatus from the blogosphere.
However the wedding IS expensive so you can do your part by going to my site and buying a t-shirt or something. All purchases are cherished by this humble blogger.

DreamMap has been approved for publication by Amazon and I have ordered proof copies for my reader panel. I hope to have it available and for sale by September 1st. It will be available in paperback and a Kindle edition through Amazon. By the time it is available it will have taken two years and four revisions. It is by far the longest creative project I have ever been involved in. I have to thank Hinda Burke, my soulmate and editor for helping with this novel and translating it in to actual english rather than the weird stuff I write down.

I have a life list, well it might be written down somewhere but it certainly exists inside my head. I have done a number of things on it. I have traveled to a lot of places although I still have a lot of places I want to see. I have done some things that are kind of dangerous. I have snorkeled with giant sea turtles and barracuda. I have ridden on horseback through the mountains of Tennessee, Arizona and New Mexico. As a photographer I have walked the mean streets and worked in dangerous places like steel mills on cranes and nuclear power plants and with dangerous people like zombies. I am 69 and hopefully still get to cross a lot of other things off my list. This year I will publish my first novel DreamMap.
However, this is something I will never do and never wanted to do although I bet you can you can get great pictures from up there. No thanks Mr. Larue I am ready for my crane shot now.

After a year and a half my novel DreamMap™ is with the co-author and editor for the 3rd time. It now is 308 Pages and over 80,000 words so statistically a real novel! I am hoping to find a publisher but have developed a cover for a proof run that I will make after the third edit. This run will be for proofreaders and final edits but I hope to have it available soon and hopefully also in a Kindle version. This is a proof of the cover for the “proof run”.
