Moment#9–Waiting on a Tram

This is the last week for our photo exhibition, Moments and Souls at the Percolate Gallery in Pittsburgh. I realize that many of you can not make it in to the gallery so over the next few weeks I will be publishing “the moments” that were my contribution to the show.

This image was taken in Prague in 2016.It is another example of the photographic misdirection I strive to create by not looking through the viewfinder as I capture and image.

Moment and Souls Opens Tomorrow

Moments and Souls opens tomorrow at the Percolate Art Space and Gallery located at 317 S. Trenton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15221. The exhibition runs from November 8, 2017 through December 2nd. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 11th from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the gallery

Moments and Souls features the work of Richard Burke and Dale Schmitt. The two met as teacher and student at the Ivy School of Professional Art. Both are eclectic photographers, but the show focuses on their passion for photographing people. They approach their work of capturing people in very different ways.

Richard’s inspiration has often come the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, who defined the concept of the decisive photographic moment. Richard uses a technique of taking pictures without looking through the viewfinder to get more honest expressions.

Dale’s inspiration has come from the revealing portraits of Yousuf Karsh. Dale’s portraits capture a person’s soul. These photographs show both the carefully crafted and deliberate portrait style of Karsh and the split second timing of a life moment àla Bresson.

Moments and Souls Outtake #9

Along with Dale Schmitt of Pittsburgh, I am pleased to announce our photo exposition at The Percolate Art Space in Pittsburgh. The exhibition runs from November 8,2017 until December 2,2017.

Richard Burke and Dale Schmitt have over 80 years of combined photographic experience. They are both eclectic photographers with broad portfolios of commercial and artistic work. They photograph people but approach that part of their portfolio in completely different ways. Richard is all about capturing the decisive moment and Dale is a creator of portraits that capture the souls of his subjects.

Join us at the gallery to celebrate the human experience!

In order to whet your appetite we will be posting some outtakes. These are images that did not make the final cut for the exhibition but may be part of a book based on the show concept. This one was photographed during a fashion shoot when my dog Ace decided to join us.
