Name Poll for New Work for Associated Artist of Pittsburgh

For the second year I will try to rejoin the Association I belonged to in the 1970″s and avoid paying back dues. Just a gluten for punishment I guess. My artistic goal is always to capture the decisive moment for each image. This is one of my newly framed images I plan to submit this year. I think the image is a perfect moment of this young lady jumping off the shoulders of her boyfriend in to the waiting arms of friends. Fortunately they didn’t drop her. The image was photographed at Chicago’s Cloudscape Sculpture in Millennial Park commonly known as The Bean,

I am having trouble with picking the perfect name though and once again must ask for your help. Please take a moment to answer my poll.

Moments and Souls Outtake #9

Along with Dale Schmitt of Pittsburgh, I am pleased to announce our photo exposition at The Percolate Art Space in Pittsburgh. The exhibition runs from November 8,2017 until December 2,2017.

Richard Burke and Dale Schmitt have over 80 years of combined photographic experience. They are both eclectic photographers with broad portfolios of commercial and artistic work. They photograph people but approach that part of their portfolio in completely different ways. Richard is all about capturing the decisive moment and Dale is a creator of portraits that capture the souls of his subjects.

Join us at the gallery to celebrate the human experience!

In order to whet your appetite we will be posting some outtakes. These are images that did not make the final cut for the exhibition but may be part of a book based on the show concept. This one was photographed during a fashion shoot when my dog Ace decided to join us.

Independence Day

A Salute to Fathers

I know Father’s Day is a uniquely American holiday probably created by the greeting card companies or Craftsman tools. But fathers are important in the development of societal norms and in fostering the growth of children. We don’t go through the pain and sacrifice that mothers do and for that reason are sometimes overlooked as being important in a child’s development. However children need two parents and I salute all fathers today who have stayed with their family and provided protection, sustenance and leadership for their children and love them in spite of their flaws.

My Kind of Selfie

If you know me you know that like most people I am kinda shy about being photographed. When I was in my 20’s or 30’s I didn’t mind it so much. It was before surgeries and hair growing out of unusual places. I am still kind of fit and flexible for my age but don’t like the camera on me much. So selfies are not my thing. I don’t mind the occasional selfie but tend to think I am just screwing up the view of what I want to share. I don’t mind the vanity of others and kind of find it amusing.

So here is a selfie of me in The Indiana Cafe in Paris at Guerre Montparnasse in 2011. It is actually a refection off of a table, I am the foreground blob, you can see the waitress talking to my wife and a man standing up to my left. This is my kind of self portrait. I have posted some others below.

Laundry Day

Driving through Isla Mujeres I noticed a number of houses with laundry blowing in the wind. This house had pink flamingos, laundry drying and Christmas lights. Coming from Pittsburgh I found this combination fascinating.
