My Virtual Vacation Day 14—Chicago

We had hoped in retirement to travel the world. So far we have done a pretty good job with trips to Mexico, Hawaii, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and The Czech Republic. However the pandemic has stopped all of that for a while. So while waiting for Africa, Alaska and Scandinavia, our current travel is going to have to be virtual. Today’s stop is Chicago.

This city is really important to me. Our daughter and her family live there. It is also historically and strategically important to the USA.It is one of the largest lake shipping ports in the world. Thanks to the Saint Lawrence Seaway it is a major point of entry into the United States. It is also the latest rail hub in the United States. Culturally and ethnically Chicago is unique and important to the cultural fabric of our country.

Name Poll for New Work for Associated Artist of Pittsburgh

For the second year I will try to rejoin the Association I belonged to in the 1970″s and avoid paying back dues. Just a gluten for punishment I guess. My artistic goal is always to capture the decisive moment for each image. This is one of my newly framed images I plan to submit this year. I think the image is a perfect moment of this young lady jumping off the shoulders of her boyfriend in to the waiting arms of friends. Fortunately they didn’t drop her. The image was photographed at Chicago’s Cloudscape Sculpture in Millennial Park commonly known as The Bean,

I am having trouble with picking the perfect name though and once again must ask for your help. Please take a moment to answer my poll.

A Missing Moment…Jumping Bean

When assembling images for our show, “Moments and Souls” I forgot to include this one. If we ever decide to publish a book I will have to include it. It is a perfect moment captured in front of the Cloud Gate sculpture in Chicago’s Millennium Park. The sculpture is affectionately called The Bean by Second City residents.

This young lady placed a lot of trust in the crowd as she jumped from her boyfriend’s shoulders into their waiting arms.

Main Street Sculpture

Part of Main Street in Memphis is a pedestrian mall. Beautiful wooden trolleys run along the street so some caution is still required when walking. Near the Mississippi River is this beautiful outdoor metal sculpture.

In a way it reminds me of Chicago’s Cloudgate (The Bean).

Candidate #16–Bean Crazy

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of new images of only digital photography.Being around “The Bean” in Chicago’s Millennium Park makes people act a little stupid. This young lady tried crowd diving into a group of strangers who fortunately caught her. Please feel free to leave comments if you agree or disagree about including them in a “best of” list.

About six years ago my Daughter moved to Chicago and made it her home. Later this year she will be married at a Chicago Landmark, The Palmer House Hotel. Of course Mom and Dad have traveled there a lot over the last six years and thus I have collected what I think are a few decent images. Later this week we will make another journey to America’s “Second City”. Here are some of the better images and most are available for purchase as prints.
