Tarpon Springs is a beautiful little town that is known as the sponge Capitol of the USA. You can see the boats loaded with sponges in the harbor. Most of the parking lots were full, yet this one was completely empty. Even so, we couldn’t bring ourselves to park here.

Tow Job
The Thousand Columns of Chichen Itza isn’t because there are exactly thousand columns but merely a large number of columns that supported the roof of what is believed to be the ancient market place. The roof may have been made of mortar, wood or thatch. It is believed that these were great meeting halls adjacent to the market.

This is the kind of skiing they do in Cancún and to me more preferable to freezing my ass off on some slope in the rockie mountains or Vermont. To each his own, I guess.

The beach at Lagunamar was never crowded and although there were occasional vendors strolling the beach, they were not very aggressive. This Mayan lady was very friendly and liked to pose.

In addition to the famous temple “El Castillo”, there are over 50 others at Chichen Itsa. Some were actually private for the upper classes only. You can almost see Indiana Jones running away from this one carrying an ancient artifact.
