Special Day Lily

In Western Pennsylvania day lilies grow wild by the road side. They are always a plain orange color. They naturalize so vigorously that some people think of them as weeds and pull them out. They are available in a wide variety of colors. We tend to eschew the very popular Stella D’oro variety and plant different colors. I love the dark purple and red day lilies. This year we planted this one not knowing what color it would be and got this pleasant surprise.

Early Tulips

Spring happens later in the mountains. At 1700 feet above sea level, tulips don’t really bloom until Mothers Day. These are the first tulips of the year in our pocono mountain garden. See other images of spring and buy prints at my commercial gallery.

Day Lilly

Yesterday I was mulching our garden and staging it for our open house this weekend. We have three gardens in our Pocono Mountain home. I don’t know if potential buyers realize the significance of having any garden in a terrain this rough. When we bought this house it was new and hardscaped, not landscaped. I personally moved four tons of top soil into the gardens and after ten years of mulching and composting it actually looks pretty good. I wish the day lilies were open this weekend because they are magnificent but potential buyers should like the blooming daffodils, tulips and periwinkle. You can see other floral images or buy a print of this one at my commercial gallery.
