Candidate #10–Meeting in the Park

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of my Photojournalism. I am only selecting from images taken in the 21st Century and not including any older analog photography. This was taken the Central Park in Milan Italy. They don’t have special “dog parks” in Milan and I just love the interaction of dogs and owners as this meeting took place. It seems like the only one conscious of the camera is the German Shepherd in the background. Please feel free to leave comments if you agree or disagree about including them in a “best of” list.

Miss Lily’s Close Up

Flowers are great from a distance but to really see them sometimes a close up view is the best thing. This was shot on a Nikon D5200 with a Nikon 300mm Lens at ISO 3200. The shutter speed was 150 and aperture was f22. The lighting was indirect and the result is you can really appreciate the texture of the bloom.

Yellow Day Lily

The beautiful day lilies in our back garden continue to bloom. Most people think of day lilies as being orange like the ones we see along roadways in the Northeast and mid atlantic states. However, like roses they come in a variety of colors and shapes. These are our yellow day lilies and I specifically like the ruffled edges on the petals.

White Lily

Lily week continues in the garden. The beautiful day lilies in our back garden continue to bloom. In our front garden though is where our white lilies live. In my opinion this is the queen lily growing a little taller than the rest and in pure bridal white a true beauty!

Plethora of Lilies

Last winter almost killed our “butterfly bushes” and we lost some lilies and other perennials but the Day Lilies seem to have liked it. This is the most buds we have ever had on this day Lilly plant in ten years.

Pocono Lily

Lilies are the crown jewels of our garden. When they bloom Summer is in full gear. Lilies remind me of warm weather, swimming pools, lakes and walks in the park. I think they might be my favorite except for tulips, daffodils…oh never mind, I don’t really have a favorite. They are just beautiful flowers.

Bud Bug

This is our first day Lilly of the season. I like this close up the best even though it is not cropped quite right. I like it because of the little bug feasting on one of the flower’s stamens. You can see the weight of the bug actually causing the stamen to bend. I expect the weight which has to be less than a tenth of an ounce which proves once again that all things are relative..

Flutterbye

Yesterday I published Pirate Butterfly. Anytime I photography animals or sports I try to take some shots with slow shutter speeds to capture the movement of the scene. In the image “the High Heat” I try to capture the movement of the Pitcher as an example. Yesterday I published “Pirate Butterfly” speaking of baseball but was also intrigued by the movement of the wings and the stillness of the antennae.

Pirate Butterfly

We have been trying to sell our Pocono Mountain home and return to our hometown of Pittsburgh for over a year. We recently spent a couple of days there seeing relatives on our way back from Chicago. We have been getting more showings and the market may be picking up. This butterfly came to visit yesterday and I am hoping it is a omen…ya know, BLACK and GOLD…Pirates…Steelers….Penguins!

Not Arabian Sunset

When I took this picture I imagined I was in some Arabian Knight’s tale. The outline of the moorish style resort at Rancho Mirage in the desert sun took me to a completely different place.
