A Night at The Ballpark

This year we have been to 5 Pittsburgh Pirates games and one Steelers game and the two experiences couldn’t be more different. Of course we can afford to have seats on the 100 level for the Bucs and for the Steelers we were in the 500’s near the end zone. At the Bucs game you feel you are out for a night with friends you don’t know. All age groups are represented and yes there are a few drunks and occasionally you may here a swear word.

The NFL game is totally different. People have been drinking and tailgating for hours. There are no children. There are a lot of very large men. Even the language is different. Even the restrooms are different. You feel kind of on edge at all times. Women can’t have purses or fanny packs and are forced to carry their stuff in clear plastic bags they sell outside the gates. Photographers can’t have telephoto lenses and being profane and drunk seems to be a requirement. We are going to see another Steelers game in October and we will be better prepared. My wife has her plastic bag and I will not be carrying a camera and hell yah I will swear damn it!

From last nights game at PNC Park Cubs v Pirates. Note the bartenders at McFadden’s before the game move so fast they actually blur in photos!

Pirate Butterfly

We have been trying to sell our Pocono Mountain home and return to our hometown of Pittsburgh for over a year. We recently spent a couple of days there seeing relatives on our way back from Chicago. We have been getting more showings and the market may be picking up. This butterfly came to visit yesterday and I am hoping it is a omen…ya know, BLACK and GOLD…Pirates…Steelers….Penguins!

Hey Steelers Fans!

This lady looks like she might rip the liver out of your body and feed it to her son, however this is just the practiced intensity of a Steelers Fan. On this day about 8,000 Steelers Fans were at Latrobe to watch the team in training camp. It was very humid, very warm and had just rained. It didn’t seem to bother the fans or the football team. Da Burg!

In honor to the great football game yesterday against our arch rivals the “Old Browns”, I wanted to honor Pittsburgh today. We moved from Cleveland to Pittsburgh when I was ten and no matter where I have lived since, Pittsburgh is my home town. We plan to move back next year and maybe actually GO to some Steelers games. Big Ben Down

Tonight the Pittsburgh Steelers will play their arch rival Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field missing their ace who was seriously injured last week. Real Steeler fans call the Ravens the “Old Browns” because former Browns owner Art Model deserted Cleveland and moved his team to Baltimore. He was kind of like the Lebron James of his time. He was not allowed to keep the old franchise name because of the way he “stiffed” the city of Cleveland and a new team was finally installed in that city. Browns fans insist that they have a rivalry with Pittsburgh, but real Steelers fans know it is the Ravens and not the Browns we really hate. You can’t blame Baltimore, hell their owner literally moved the Colts out of town in the middle of the night leaving that city without a team for years. The loss of Big Ben will make it harder to win tonight, but real Steeler fans will keep the faith. You can buy a print of healthy Big Ben by clicking here.

Steelers Training Camp Opens Today!

Steeler nation will begin to shift their focus from Baseball to Football today as the Steelers Training Camp opens in Latrobe Pennsylvania today. I love spectator sports and this year has been a really fun season for me because the Pirates and White Sox are both doing so well. But quite honestly, basketball, hockey and baseball are all waiting around for Steelers Football to start. This shot of Brett “The Diesel” Keisel was taken at training camp in 2008.
