Mexican Dancer Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This group of performers were outside the archaeological ruins in Tulum Mexico. They were trying to solicit people to have their picture taken with a huge snake. I found them to be colorful performers.

The problem with the original image is that it was taken quickly and the focus seemed soft. To correct this I edited it with the edge tool and HDR tool form NIK. The result is an acceptable candid image although not worthy of my commercial site.

The Old Oyster House Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This is one of the first images I ever took with a cell phone. When I returned to Pittsburgh five years ago one of the first places I visited was Market Square which had changed dramatically in my 35 year absence. One thing that seemed unchanged was The Original Oyster House.

I took this image while sitting at the bar. It was in color but thought it should really be a monochrome image so I edited it with the NIK Silver Imaging tool.

Strasbourg Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This image was originally in color. A friend of mine recently purchased a mirrorless camera and I love that you can actually “see” a color image in black and white before you shoot it. Unfortunately my camera does not have that ability. So I used the NIK Silver FX tool to create the monochrome versions.

It was a dark and blustery day when the original as taken so I thought it might actually look better in monochrome. What do you think?

Window Fashion in Milano

I am in the process of searching old images for post production. When I do this I frequently find images that I never shared or really studied at all. I never shared it because I found the window reflections annoying. Maybe they are but when I saw it I laughed out loud so the image works on some level.

This window was on a street in central Milan Italy not far from the Central Park.

Friend or Foe Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This was taken off Captiva Island in Florida a number of years ago. I love brown pelicans and when I saw fisherman trying to hit them with shovels or poles,I got upset. My brother in law explained that fisherman hate them because they hang around the boats and try to steal the fisherman’s catch.

I reedited this using the NIK HDR tools and adjusted the color andcontrast to make it appear more like a paining.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years

As we prepare to go visit family I wanted to take a moment to thank my on-line family for your support during the year. I expanded my reach to over 80 countries and had the best year for visitors with over 9,000 visitors and close to 20,000 views.

Next year we will take ourselves and our lenses to four different countries and revisit some of our favorite domestic locations so please stay tuned.

I wish you all a happy end to 2018 and even a better year in 2019 and a joyous holiday season.

A Perfect Jewish Christmas

In 2012 we spent Christmas at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City. The resort was new and only lasted for a few years. It was a great place though while it lasted and this is a repeat of my post from 2012. Oh, and we didn’t win.
………………………………………………………….

It can be tough being a Jew around Christmas time unless you have a Christmas Family. I was fortunate growing up and we always had a family that we hung out with at Christmas. We would get a couple of gifts, and give some, share in the meal and have a some time around a brightly lit Christmas tree. However, it is well known that if you don’t have a Christmas family then you can do two things on Christmas if you are Jewish.

1) Attend the massive Jewish meeting to discuss how we will control the media for yet another year.
2) Go to a movie and eat Chinese food.

It used to be when I was a kid everything was closed on Christmas, even gas stations. Not any more. We decided this year to up the ante and instill a new tradition by going gambling and eating in a signature restaurant so we are off to Atlantic City to revel in the new Revel Resort. So I won’t be posting for a while and if I win BIG, maybe a long while. Whatever you do, have a great Christmas. That’s right I am Jewish but can still wish everybody a Merry Christmas.

How to Identify Winter in Pittsburgh

In recent years it’s hard to know when it is actually winter in Pittsburgh. We have had 60 degree days in January and 20 degree days in November. Fortunately we have a fool proof system. If Dino has his scarf on, it’s cold enough to be winter!

Point Breeze Christmas Tree

I really love when neighborhoods decorate existing trees with lights> It doesn’t have to be a pine tree! I saw this the other night when going out to dinner in Point Breeze and love the non traditional tree. Point Breeze is a small neighborhood with two really good restaurants.

Autumn in The Pocono Mountains

The fall foliage was really poor this year around Pittsburgh. It was too long too late and the fall colors were sporadic. So I had to return to the vault to find a good image of the Autumn. This was takn a few years ago in Pike County Pennsylvania.
