Kim Revisited

A long time ago I used to shoot photographs for model’s portfolios. Most of these were done in my studio under controlled lighting. Kim was a model that I used for my Photography classes in Pittsburgh and she wanted to have some fashion photographs in exterior locations. We found this old deserted barn and did most of the shots outside the barn where there was decent light. I have always like this one the best however and think it is one of the best back-lit images in my collection. You see other images and buy prints of this one at my commercial gallery.

New York’s Central Park

I was in Central Park with family for a walk on Sunday Afternoon. I only had only lens, no tripod and had to keep up with my group. I wanted to take a picture of Central Park that captured the feeling of the place to me which was in constant movement. Bike riders, walkers,dogs, old people, young people; they were are there and all in motion. I set the exposure for 1/30th of a second and tried to hold it steady as I took a single step and stopped. Great cities have great parks. Of course New Yorkers will insist that Central Park is “the best” in the world and maybe it is. New Yorkers also say it is the largest city park but it’s not even the largest in the United States. It is special however and it’s central location makes it very accessible to people living in Manhattan and of course, tourists. The human tapestry is just as much fun as the natural setting. Hey New York, Get Some Fish!

Last Sunday in New York City was beautiful. Perfect weather, hard bodies running, families a strolling and dogs a playing provided a perfect human tapestry of relaxed summer fun. Well, perfect until you got to the lakes. In some areas where people were rowing boats the water was green,OK green but STILL water, I don’t know what this is. This is the end of one pond near Belvedere Castle. This photo is not augmented at all and is actually the way it looked. Boat rental anyone? Yes they were lined up to rent a boat to row through this muck. I have heard that the more catfish you have the less algae you have. Everyone who has ever had an aquarium knows this. Pocono Butterfly

I don’t know much about butterflies. How long do they live? What are their names? I do know they are beautiful and this one spent some time in our garden. They seem to be like day lilies, see them one day and then they are gone. Unlike the Hummingbirds and other birds that visit ever day I think the life of a butterfly is brief. It’s hard for me to imagine they come from caterpillars which I find kind of creepy. This Pocono Butterfly lives on in this image. Top of the Falls

This is a view of the top of the Main Falls at Pennsylvania’s Bushkill Falls. I kind of like this perspective of the viewing area at the base of the falls from the very top. Flutterbye!

When my daughter was tiny she used to called them flutterbyes which, when you think of it of it is actually more descriptive than butterflies. Fences

At Bushkill Falls, some of the paths are lined with old fences. They look like the wind would blow them over, yet they are sturdy and have probably been like that for decades.During some of the hike the fences are greatly appreciated and help keep us on the trail and out of the creek. Pennsylvania’s Niagara

Comparing any waterfall to Niagara is probably a mistake. Out of all the waterfalls I have seen, nothing compares to Niagara. However, Bushkill falls in Pennsylvania is still spectacular. It is actually a collection of eight different waterfalls. However, what makes it special is the walkways and steps they have built to offer a variety of hikes through the falls. The entrance and signage are kind of hokey and the attractions they have added for the kids are fairly lame. However the falls are spectacular. This is the main falls at Bushkill.

There is a scenic drive in California that is not to be missed. It is called 17-Mile Drive and is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach on the Monterrey Peninsula. There are many scenic views along the drive like the Lone Cypress and the Famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. There is a small island off shore that is called Seal island which was one of the highlights for me because I love seeing wildlife in a natural environment.
