Sunday in Paris

We live in a violent world. A friend reminded me yesterday of two other hideous events that happened this week in Beirut and Bagdad where more lives were lost than in Paris. Yet the violence in Paris impacted me more. Why? I guess because I have been there a few times and Paris is familiar. Of course that doesn’t make rational sense, horror is horror and terror is terror. It does however make emotional sense in the same way that seeing the fall of the World Trade Centers forces a visceral response.

In any case today is Sunday and although the season is wrong, this is the way I think of Paris on Sundays. I hope Parisians are taking to the streets, buying baguettes and enjoying the gardens.

Summer Sunday in Paris

Paris is like any other major city, things slow down on Sunday. In the summer people have a lot of Parks to choose from in Paris. Parc Monceau,Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin du Palais Royal are some of the better known spots. However, my favorite is the Jardin du Luxembourg adjacent to Luxembourg Palace which is the center of the French Government. It is very large with many different spaces and you can see lovers kissing, joggers jogging and some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. This image sums up Sunday in Paris to me. Texting on the Emerald Sea

Maybe they were calling for help because they were scared of the algae filled water? Maybe they were texting each other? Maybe the male was looking up instructions on how to row a boat? Whatever the reason they didn’t seem to be paying attention to each other which is what a romantic row boat ride in New York’s Central Park is all about. The Lake at Central Park

The Lake at Central Park on the West Side of Manhattan is the second largest body of water in the park after the reservoir. You can rent row boats if you are so driven or rent bikes to ride around the park. If you live in the city nothing is more fun on a summer Sunday than being in the park, if you live in the mountains where I live, it’s no big whoop. Hey New York, Get Some Fish!

Last Sunday in New York City was beautiful. Perfect weather, hard bodies running, families a strolling and dogs a playing provided a perfect human tapestry of relaxed summer fun. Well, perfect until you got to the lakes. In some areas where people were rowing boats the water was green,OK green but STILL water, I don’t know what this is. This is the end of one pond near Belvedere Castle. This photo is not augmented at all and is actually the way it looked. Boat rental anyone? Yes they were lined up to rent a boat to row through this muck. I have heard that the more catfish you have the less algae you have. Everyone who has ever had an aquarium knows this. C’mon Mayor Bloomberg spring for some fish! You can see other images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial gallery.

Sunday Morning in Milano

The entire pace of Milan Italy changes on Sunday morning, everything moves at a slower pace…well almost everything. Italy is a Catholic country and the one thing you will not be late for is Sunday Morning Mass. Churches are also almost the only buildings without graffiti. This young family has a purposeful stride which makes me think they are headed for Church and not a morning coffee like me. You cn buy a print of this image on my commercial site by clicking here.
