Chris Wood

Chris Wood from Medeski,Martin and Wood is one of the world’s best bass players. During their current “acoustic tour” he played three different basses during the show. When he plays the “stand up”bass the instrument seems to become part of his body. Click here to see other images or by a print of this one.

Chris Woods on the Fender

During the Medeski, Martin and Woods Acoustic concert at the Sherman Theater, Chris Woods played three different types of Bass instruments. Here he is playing his well traveled Fender Bass during the concert. You can buy a print of this image on my commercial gallery by clicking here.

Chris Wood on the Hofner

Chris Wood plays a lot of instruments but outside of Paul McCarthy you don’t see too many professional bass guitar players playing the Hofner bass guitar which has its own unique sound. This photo was taken recently at the Medeski, Martin and Wood concert at the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg Pennsylvania. I have seen most of the great bass players in concert (Clarke,Woonton, etc)and Wood is a member of that class. You can purchase a print of this image by clicking here.

Billy Martin Playing the Xylophone

Billy Martin comes to concert with a big bag of tricks. In addition, to the drums, he plays a variety of instruments including plastic hangers. Yep, the same hangers you hang clothes on. He also played a bicycle wheel. Here he is playing the Xylophone during a recent concert at the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Chris Wood Portrait #2

At the Medeski Martin and Wood concert, I took a lot of pictures of Chris Wood. He is not only a great bassist but he let’s it all hang out. His facial expressions equal the intensity and joy of the music. You can buy a print of this image on my commercial site by clicking here.

Chris Wood Portrait

Last night we saw Medeski, Martin and Wood at the Sherman Theather in Stroudsburg, PA. I have been a fan for many years but never saw them play. The show was awesome and even better because if we had stayed home we would of watched the Steelers lose. Chris Wood is a an amazing bass player and really holds the trio together. Not only is he fun to listen to but he is very expressive physically. You feel the upright bass is welded to his body as he moves around the stage. This is the first of a series and you can purchase prints at my commercial gallery by clicking here.
