Bass Hands Revisited

Chris Wood from Medeski,Martin and Wood is one of the world’s best bass players. This was captured during “acoustic tour” in 2015 at The Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg Pennsylvania. He played three different basses during the show. When he plays the “stand up”bass the instrument seems to become part of his body.

Scenic Views Candidate #4—Summer Moon

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of new images of only digital photography. Right now I am reviewing images that are scenicor from nature. This is a blend of two images taken in the pocono mountains and merged in Photoshop.

Three Rivers Arts Festival

Each year during the first two weeks of June, Pittsburgh hosts the three rivers arts festival. The events take place at the confluence of the Ohio River at Point State Park where the Allegheny and the Monongahela rivers meet. There are free concerts, ethic foods and fantastic art for sale in addition to a juried art show. We didn’t have a lot of time to spend this year, a Pittsburgh Pirate game beckoned and it WAS hot. We did manage to get a couple of photos to share.

The Black Rock Negative Energy Absorber was a temporary exhibit that travels the country. You touch the black rock and it absorbs all your negative energy. No really!

Another temporary installation were Dogs Under the Bridge. You go under the bridge to get to the vendors and the park and these quite well behaved dogs were there to great you.

This guy was pathetic. His suit was taped together and he walked very slowly with his head hung. It was almost 90 degrees and I am sure he scared more kids than not.

A great place to chill out is at the fountain built on the spot where The Ohio River begins.

Flower with a Beard!

Each year Iris puts on a show and each year there are more and more in the garden so we divide them up and create other Iris pockets. They are usually called bearded iris because they seem to have a face with a beard. This was taken on a Nikon D3100 with a 50mm-300mm Nikon Lens at 240mm at f11 for 1/160th of a second at an ISO of 400. You can buy a print of this one by clicking here.

The Taste Buds

Penn State University had a fraternity fund raiser called the Phi Si 500. It was a race, where runners had to run a mile and stop and drink a beer at a number of bars along the way. They would frequently do so in costume. This is Bud Man leading the Taste Buds to the next bar in State College PA during the 1980’s. The University and the City finally agreed to prohibit the race and the Fraternity created a more standard fun raising event. You can purchase a copy of this print by clicking here.

John Medeski

John Medeski is best known for playing the keyboards and the Hammond B3 Organ. I was impressed in a recent concert to see how many different wind instruments he played. This one looks like it is made out of PVC. The funny thing is that normally after he plays a lead he kind of just waits until the next break. With this one though, he would kind of hold the instrument out and stare at it with a funny expression that seemed to say, I can’t believe I am playing this. Billy Martin Playing the Xylophone

Billy Martin comes to concert with a big bag of tricks. In addition, to the drums, he plays a variety of instruments including plastic hangers. Yep, the same hangers you hang clothes on. He also played a bicycle wheel. Here he is playing the Xylophone during a recent concert at the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Chris Wood Portrait #2

At the Medeski Martin and Wood concert, I took a lot of pictures of Chris Wood. He is not only a great bassist but he let’s it all hang out. His facial expressions equal the intensity and joy of the music. You can buy a print of this image on my commercial site by clicking here.
