Prague Revisited

As a photographer, I was “on fire” when I visited Prague. I recorded a lot of images and over the last few years have published many of them and exhibited some prints in exhibition. Every time I visit the archive I find images that I like and have never edited or published. Here are a few more color images. I tend to see Prague more in monochrome but it is also intriguing in color.

Reflections of Praha (Prague)

I keep revisiting my photos of Praha (Prague). During our five days in Prague I took as many photographs as I did in the previous ten days of our trip. I found the city and its people to be fascinating. This is a reflection in the base of a fantastic dynamic sculpture of Franz Kafka by artist David Černý.

Saint Vitus Cathedral Prague

Saint Vitus Cathedral in Prague Czech Republic is a very important Cathedral in Roman Catholicism. It is located within the Prague Castle Complex which is a collection of ancient buildings dating back to the tenth century. At the time Prague was the seat of The Holy Roman Empire.

It is a be example of Romanesque architecture with awe inspiring stained glass and statues inside and outside the Cathedral.

Doors of Prague #3

Traveling through Europe I became facinated with some of the ancient doorways of the cities. One of the first I ever published was in March of 2012. It was a doorway in Bruges that I photographed in the 1990″s while I was there on business.

The doorways of Prague (Praha) in the Czech Republic were some of the best I have ever seen. I published a few in 2016 but have since done some editing so that you can appreciate the detail and variety of these ancient doorways.

Smithsonian Candidate #4…Praha, CZE

I am thinking of entering the Smithsonian Photo Contest even though I have zero chance of winning. I say that not to denigrate my ability as a photographer, but each category already has over 50,000 entries. Sure a lot of them are crap but some, well follow the link above and see for yourself. Also you can only submit work from 1/1/2016 until the present and all works with people must have a model release.

If you are familiar with any of my work (e.g. Moment and Souls) you probably realize I don’t have a lot of model releases.

Fortunately I do have some images that may qualify in other categories and will be publishing some here to see if you feel they quality. Please comment and let me know your thoughts. This was taken from one of the gardens at Prague Castle of the city below

Autumn in Praha

In so many ways, Praha (Prague) reminds me of Pittsburgh my hometown. There is a large Czech population in Pittsburgh and our ethic foods and culture has a definite Czech, Polish and German connection. The hills around the Czech Capitol are also reminiscent of the hills around Pittsburgh. The autumn colors make me think of home.

Taken in October 2016 from the park surrounding Prague Castle.

Doors of Praha Part 2

In Munich I started to photograph doors. Fascinated by these ancient structures I continued for the rest of the Europe trip. It was Praha (Prague) that had the most interesting doorways. I will publish these as I extract them from my archive. These are doorways of Prague Part Two.

Castle Street

From the Charles Bridge I looked up at Prague Castle thinking it might be large. I had no idea. We approached the castle and from the outside I just thought it was a huge building. Not until we were inside the fortifications did I begin to comprehend the size.

It is not just a castle. It is a city. There is a cathedral and two other churches. There are gardens and walks, restaurants and cafes and many shops. In ancient times many people lived inside the castle serving the Kings and Holy Roman Emperor. Now it is the seat of government and people work and live there serving the government and millions of visitors.

This is one of the many streets with small shops catering to tourists.
