Aboard The Azamara Pursuit

We had never taken an ocean cruise before but after taking a river cruise we decided to try it. We selected the Mediterranean because we figured it would be calmer than the Atlantic or Pacific. Research was discouraging because either the ships were too big or if smaller than real expensive. We selected Azamara because they seemed to offer the same sort of luxury that Regent,Viking and the other small ships but at a better price point. The Azamara Pursuit was their newest ship and completely refurbished.

Azamara is a brand of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines aimed to compete in the small ship luxury market. The ship had 770 passengers and 450 crew. We were upgraded to a small suite and the service was exceptional. The ship had everything you could want want and because of the small size able to go to smaller ports like Elba and Port Vendre in France. We were always one of the smaller ships in the harbor. One of our guides pointed to an MSC Cruise Ship and told us it had 7000 plus passengers. We I sw that ship I knew we had chosen wisely and now we are thinking about our next adventure.

Hallelujah by Maryfer Aboard The Azamara Pursuit

We traveled for a week aboard the Azamara Pursuit cruising from Barcelona to Rome. It was an awesome experience and I am sure I will write more about it over the next few weeks. There was a lot of good entertainment onboard but our favorite was the captivating Maryfer. Playing a grand piano and singing in a beautiful clear voice with great range.

The video is her singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. It doesn’t do justice to the power of her voice but you get the idea.We also got to know her and her boyfriend a little. He accompanies her on guitar and also is a vocalist. A lovely young couple.

Rhine Castle Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This image was taken from the deck of The Viking Longship HILN as we cruised the Rhine River Gorge, Most of the images I took were worthless because the movement of the ship was so fast that the images would blur. For this one however for some reason the ship slowed dramatically and I was able to take a clear shot.

I reedited this using the NIK color tools and adjusted the color and exposure to make the clouds and sky stand out.

Smithsonian Candidate #2…Ghost Ship

I am thinking of entering the Smithsonian Photo Contest even though I have zero chance of winning. I say that not to denigrate my ability as a photographer, but each category already has over 50,000 entries. Sure a lot of them are crap but some, well follow the link above and see for yourself. Also you can only submit work from 1/1/2016 until the present and all works with people must have a model release.

If you are familiar with any of my work (e.g. Moment and Souls) you probably realize I don’t have a lot of model releases.

Fortunately I do have some images that may qualify in other categories and will be publishing some here to see if you feel they quality. Please comment and let me know your thoughts. This is an entry in altered image category of a boat at sunset off La Isla Dora in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Play Me

In every country we visited throughout Europe we found pianos in public places available for public performance. This one was inside the mall adjacent to the Central Station in Amsterdam. The piano was in tune and pianist actually knew how to play.

Creative Tree Trimming

I have noticed that in Europe there is a formality and structure to even the smallest garden. This attention to detail extends to even the way they trim their trees. This tree is along the Rhine River near Breisach Germany

Autumn in The Rhineland

A year ago we put on our adventurer’s caps and traveled down the Rhine River in Germany. This scene was shot from the top deck of the Viking Hiln.

Two Church Village

The Rhine River cruise was too interesting to be boring. However, after a while the villages became predictable. There was a dock, a town hall, a small square and a Church. This town must have been special because there were two churches along the river.

Rhine River Village

One of the joys of cruising on a river is sitting on the veranda watching life pass by at an enjoyable pace. Sometimes the boat travels slow and you can see a beautiful vantage point on the land from the lazy river. This taken on the Rhine River near Koblentz Germany while cruising on the Viking Longboat Hiln. .
