We are living in some scary times right now. I am old and have lived through others but this one is somehow different and maybe more frightening. So until it is over each day I plan to post an image that provides calmness and a moment of zen. We all need a lot of moments like these right now.
Even in the darkest of time there is always some light and joy. Your job while you are in quarantine is to find some joy each day and latch on to it. I call this one dark waters. It was photographed in Tampa Florida and edited in Pittsburgh PA using photoshop.

I look to nature for relaxation and solace. Even when this pond is still if you pause and listen you can hear the life and life always brings hope. Photographed at Lettuce Lake in Tampa Florida.

In modern society it is more difficult to shut off your internal dialog and empty out your mind. We are always listening, watching, reading and we use a larger percentage of our brain than ever in history. Yoga masters know the truth is to focus on your breathing. I am a very visual person and I find it helpful while doing yoga breathing to focus on relaxing images in my mind. I find still reflections like this one to be the most relaxing. Not enough to focus on to make you think or excited, but the stillness of the image helps me to empty my brain.

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of new images of only digital photography. Right now I am reviewing images that are scenic or from nature. This is a monochrome view of Lettuce Lake State Park in Tampa taken during February 2015. It was a cloudy gray day and for a couple of hours I could only really see in shades of grey.

It’s time for a break. Like this turtle below, time to doze in the sun. We are off to visit our Chicago family and when we return we are busy with ballgames and barbecues. So I won’t be posting for a while. Hope everyone is having a great summer and I will be back with new images and non-political thoughts in a couple of weeks. Take care of each other!

This is not a good picture of an alligator. I am publishing it as a comment. Lettuce Lake State Park in Tampa Florida has been the subject of some of my posts. There are miles of boardwalks leading through Florida wetlands and swamp an lookout tower over the lake. People canoe and kayak and many different species of birds and other animals live there. I have take a lot of good photos there.
People were gathered around looking at this alligator. He was sunning himself next to three turtles. One of my friends pointed to the coins laying in front of him. Apparently some idiots found it amusing to throw money at this animal to get him to move. I kinda wish he had run up the bank and bit the jerks that did that. Sometimes I like Animals Better than People

A photographer friend and former student of mine and I were discussing HDR. I have started to use auto bracketing and the new HDR merge feature of Lightroom on some images. I am generally pleased with the results. There is almost no ghosting with tripod shots. I also did hand held shots with a VR lens and the ghosting correction option worked perfectly. My friend suggested I try the NIK filter collection plug-in from Google which I have since installed and am really amazed with the options offered by this product. I have just started to experiment with it and so far I am wowed! I cannot yet comment on all the features but compare the two images below.
The first was done with standard editing using saturation, highlight and monochrome tools on Lightroom. The second using one of the many editing pallets from the HIK Silver plugin for Lightroom.

I am not sure why they call them cypress knees. They look kind of eerie and I can imagine a slow speed canoe chase through a foggy wetlands where dodging the knees is the difference between life and death. This solitary one looks like the head of Valcor The Luck Dragon from the The Neverending Story rising from a lake.

We stayed for one month on Sunset Beach, a small residential community in Treasure Island Florida. On every clear evening people gathered to watch the sunset, surf or stroll on the beach during the magic hour.
