Not Arabian Sunset

When I took this picture I imagined I was in some Arabian Knight’s tale. The outline of the moorish style resort at Rancho Mirage in the desert sun took me to a completely different place.

Attention to Detail

One of the most interesting things about visiting the ancient Mayan sites in the Yucatan was seeing their incredible attention to detail. Along the walls of the “ball court” there were incredible engravings like this which detailed the rules of the game.

Goal!

When touring Chichén Itzá in the Yucatan before visiting the pyramids you stop at a long field. This is known as The ball field . They would play a soccer type of game in which they would kick a small ball through this goal. The goal sits atop a stone wall that is easily 20 feet high.

I have tried to visualize how they did this and still can’t quite comprehend it. The rubber type ball is about the size of a softball and the goal is not much bigger!

Wet Bottom Dinning

I said yesterday, the Endless Pool was a wonderful resort perk. I also love the swim up bar. It’s great to sit at the bar and suck down a Pina Colada or stroll through the pool drink in hand. However in my opinion the greatness of this idea to me is ruined by people sitting in their bathing suits munching on Tacos or Burgers. I can’t fathom it. I mean the pool is great but for gosh sakes take a couple of minutes, get out of the sun and have a great lunch and keep your french fries outta my pool!

Endless Fun

Major resorts have lots of great perks which is why people go there. Some are wonderful and some are just stupid. Last year we spent time at a truly wonderful resort in Cancun and were served up our first endless pool. It was great being in a pool without sharks, sand and waves and be able to feel like we were right on the beach. This is a perk I truly love. Tomorrow, a perk that is not so great.

Leaves on Black Water

The waters at Lettuce Lake Park in Tampa Florida are dark and foreboding but very clear. The dark waters make this scene a little ominous. Is an alligator lurking below or some terror from a Stephen King Book? Sometimes my imagination gets the best of me.

Happy Father’s Day

My father died at age 65, way too young. I still miss him and think of him but don’t have any really good pictures of him. My parents had already moved to Florida when I started to become a competent photographer. However, I have a million pictures of my daughter and thanks to my wife a few of me and my daughter.

My daughter just a few weeks after birth,

Mayan Light House

We own a time share at the Westin Lagunamar in Cancún. Most of the Mayan ruins are at least an hour away by car or bus. However adjacent to the resort is a small park maintained by the state of Quintana Roo. This ruin was a lighthouse for ships that were sailing towards Tulum around year 200 of the modern era. It was chosen because it is the highest spot in Cancún.

Not on My List!

I have a life list, well it might be written down somewhere but it certainly exists inside my head. I have done a number of things on it. I have traveled to a lot of places although I still have a lot of places I want to see. I have done some things that are kind of dangerous. I have snorkeled with giant sea turtles and barracuda. I have ridden on horseback through the mountains of Tennessee, Arizona and New Mexico. As a photographer I have walked the mean streets and worked in dangerous places like steel mills on cranes and nuclear power plants and with dangerous people like zombies. I am 69 and hopefully still get to cross a lot of other things off my list. This year I will publish my first novel DreamMap.

However, this is something I will never do and never wanted to do although I bet you can you can get great pictures from up there. No thanks Mr. Larue I am ready for my crane shot now.

Shadow and The Bandit

Some folks just can’t handle the action at the dog park. They see these two at play and get tense and nervous. Sometimes people would drive in, see these two and turn around and leave. Shadow and Bandit would play like this until exhausted and then they would collapse next to each other and pant. They both needed the workout but if you didn’t know better you might think this is a dog fight instead of best buddies.
