Mexican Dancer Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This group of performers were outside the archaeological ruins in Tulum Mexico. They were trying to solicit people to have their picture taken with a huge snake. I found them to be colorful performers.

The problem with the original image is that it was taken quickly and the focus seemed soft. To correct this I edited it with the edge tool and HDR tool form NIK. The result is an acceptable candid image although not worthy of my commercial site.

Another Florida Brown Pelican Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. We had spent the morning at John’s Pass Village near Madeira Beach Florida shooting Pelicans. It was a beautiful day but we were not there at the optimal time and the colors were washed out from the late morning sun. Hence I never edited or published any of the images.

Earlier this week I edited another image taken on this day and converted the image to monochrome creating a pelican portrait. I thought I might be able to save this washed out image by converting it to HDR. HDR brought out the whitecap reflections and made the image interesting and worth sharing.

Mystery Bird at John’s Pass Village

In the cold winter months I spend a lot of time reviewing and editing images. It’s warmer inside. I never shared this image before because I really don’t know what kind of bird it is. Maybe it i some sort of Ibis?

The image was taken at John’s Pass Village in Maderia Beach Florida. There are a lot of fishing boats there and hundreds of pelicans so I am assuming this little guy is also a fisher.

Brown Pelican Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. We had spent the morning at John’s Pass Village near Madeira Beach Florida shooting Pelican’s. It was a beautiful day but we were not there at the optimal time and the colors were washed out from the late morning sun. Hence I never edited or published any of the images.

In revisiting the images I wondered what if they were black and white and I just let the sky go white. It would almost be like having a flying pelican in the studio. I used the NIK Silver tool to recreate the image and I like the new version. This is why I believe that no matter how much shooting I do it pays to revisit old images.

Friend or Foe Revisited

This time of year I like to revisit old images and sometimes edit them with newer tools. This was taken off Captiva Island in Florida a number of years ago. I love brown pelicans and when I saw fisherman trying to hit them with shovels or poles,I got upset. My brother in law explained that fisherman hate them because they hang around the boats and try to steal the fisherman’s catch.

I reedited this using the NIK HDR tools and adjusted the color andcontrast to make it appear more like a paining.

A Special Christmas Bloom and Pittsburgh Glass Brick Window

A lot of people in Pittsburgh buy poinsettia plants for Christmas. They are beautiful although poisonous and people tend to throw them away after Christmas. Another choice is a Christmas Cactus which is called that even though it is not actually a cactus.

They grow well as house plants in our area and if treated properly will bloom year after year. This one is in our bathroom in front of typical Pittsburgh glass brick.

Autumn in The Pocono Mountains

The fall foliage was really poor this year around Pittsburgh. It was too long too late and the fall colors were sporadic. So I had to return to the vault to find a good image of the Autumn. This was takn a few years ago in Pike County Pennsylvania.

Roseate Spoonbill at The National Aviary

Each time we visit the National Aviary we find something new. Last visit The spoonbills were hiding in their nest and the brown pelicans were flying around. This trip was a flip flop. The pelicans were hiding and the Roseate Spoonbills were flying around and squawking. The spoonbill is a beautiful but odd looking bird.
