Lago Como Italia

At the foot of lake Como lies the port city of Como. From this harbor you can take steam boats to the other towns along the lake like Portofino or Tavernola. There is also a ferry system on the lake which is much like using a metro in Milan or Paris. People buy monthly passes and commute to jpbs and schools along the lake.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a day than cruising on Lake Como during the warmth of summer. Many people visit Lake Como without ever going out on the lake which is like sleeping through a movie. This pristine location is home to George Clooney and many other famous people and by spending a day there you will learn why. Cruising on lake Como

If you drive to Lake Como or take a Bus or Boat you might miss this great scene. This is the side of a sculpture you see as descending the stairs from the Lake Como Train Station. It is called the Monumento ai Caduti per Servicio and dedicated to disabled service people. It was created by Francesco Somaini and is actually a sculpture of two hands but from this angle it looks like the City is waving hello. Rock Striations

I always thought that striations on rock faces were evidence of glacial movement and maybe that is always true. However this cliff face was photographed in Indian Canyons in Palm Springs California and I am not sure if the glacier came that far south. It is an attractive an interesting pattern.

Joshua Tree California

Joshua Tree National Park is located north and east from Palm Springs California. It is a rustic and beautiful high desert spot with a very diverse horticulture. It is named after the unusual and plentiful Joshua Trees that are all through the park. The terrain is rugged high desert so bring your real hiking shoes.

Autumn Sunset

Winter comes quickly to the mountains. 40 miles away, the leaves have not yet hit peak color but here in the mountains the leaves are on the ground. You can see the shifting color and angle of the morning sun. The evening sunsets are cooler in color temperature but still brilliant to behold.

On the Road to Hana

Driving the Hana Highway is a once in the lifetime experience, well at least I won’t do it again. I hate driving close to the edge of narrow roads without guard rails but fortunately my wife doesn’t and we got to take this wonderful drive. If you stop to look at every waterfall along the way it will take you all day. If I were to drive it again, I would definitely get a hotel or Inn and not drive back until the next day. Maui has two great drives in addition to this one. The scenic road to Haleakala and Route 340 on the West side which is my personal favorite.

Koi Pond

I must be honest, I don’t remember exactly where this was taken. There must be a million koi ponds in Hawaii…OK, I exaggerate. We did seem to visit quite a few on all of our visits to Maui and they are all beautiful. This one however is special since it also feature pink flamingos.

Clouds and Trees

I love overcast days in the autumn. The sun breaks through and acts like a key-light for highlighting natures wonder. Soon this backyard scene of ours will become all white and we will be on a beach somewhere else.

End of Season

My season as a baseball spectator pretty much ended last night with the Pittsburgh Pirate’s loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. I have always loved Baseball even though at age 8 I was thoroughly humiliated in Little league when I took the field at 3rd base standing on the wrong side! I got better though and played Outfield and 1st base and occasional a relief catcher. My big moment came in hitting a three run home run over a fence just like this one.
