This one is hard to photograph because it is so white it can be difficult to capture the detail in the white leaves. I needed to adjust the highlights and white in photoshop but I think the result is stunning.

Orchid Number One
This time of year The Phipps Conservatory features Orchids and Bonsai. Some of the bonsai are very old. Tis year however I noticed for the first time tiny sculptures at the roots of the bonsai.
A great place to visit on a cold winter day.

Since moving back to Pittsburgh we tend to visit the Phipps Conservatory regularly. In the winter they have the Orchid Show and each year I have taken photos of this spectacular orchid but the light has never been right to capture one of the visual details.
The orchid has tendrils that look like fine hairs. This year the light was perfect and I am finally able to say that this orchid needs a shave! These are the jokes folks.

Hairy Orchid
I am in the process of searching old images for post production. When I do this I frequently find images that I never shared or really studied at all. I never shared it because I found the window reflections annoying. Maybe they are but when I saw it I laughed out loud so the image works on some level.
This window was on a street in central Milan Italy not far from the Central Park.

Milanese Fashion
A lot of people in Pittsburgh buy poinsettia plants for Christmas. They are beautiful although poisonous and people tend to throw them away after Christmas. Another choice is a Christmas Cactus which is called that even though it is not actually a cactus.
They grow well as house plants in our area and if treated properly will bloom year after year. This one is in our bathroom in front of typical Pittsburgh glass brick.

The weather has been really strange this year but winter is definitely coming. Not enough snow to shovel but the patterns of the chain link fence against the red brick background are interesting.

First Snow in Regent Square
The fall foliage was really poor this year around Pittsburgh. It was too long too late and the fall colors were sporadic. So I had to return to the vault to find a good image of the Autumn. This was takn a few years ago in Pike County Pennsylvania.
