Rijksmuseum Reflections

One of the greatest museums in the world that is housed in a former castle that is NOT The Louvre is the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Holland. It is not as large as its French counterpart but is too huge to see in a day and has many different wings with different types of art. It is also surrounded by beautiful gardens and worth a visit or two if you are in Amsterdam. You can buy a print of this image and see others on my commercial gallery.

Paris from the Pompidou Center

The Pompidou Center is one of the greatest modern art museums in the world. If you manage to get all the way to the top you will also see one of the great views of Paris. It is worth the ride up the giant escalators listening to the drumscape provided my Mickey Hart just to see the view. Of course the top floor has some great exhibits too. The sculpture and water garden on the roof is invigorating as is the view. You can buy a print of this image and see others on my commercial gallery by clicking here.

The Artist

A portrait of an old friend who is an exceptional watercolor artist. He also did amazing pen and ink sketches. I used to save his doodles when that he did when he visited but don’t know what became of them. This was taken of him drawing a cemetery gate house in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh. Tie a Yellow Ribbon

Capturing a photographic moment requires light, object and observer, What makes photographing fire so interesting is that the object and light are the same thing. However the flame is in constant change as the fuel is consumed and the flame interacts with wind and other elements. The shapes created are almost a Rorschach test contain hidden images and creating familiar shapes. You can buy a print of this image on my commercial site by clicking here.

Graffiti and the Girl

While traveling through Italy last year I was stunned by the amount of graffiti. It was everywhere except churches. I did not see any church with graffiti and some areas had more than others. Some were wonderful works of art and some just gang signs. The other thing I noticed were a plethora of beautiful, fit and well dressed women. I felt most people in europe are in better shape than most Americans. This may come from walking and bike riding instead of driving. With gasoline at over $10 per gallon, most people walk and take public transportation. This image was taken in Milan near Il Duomo. Firenze Italia

Italy has a lot of beautiful cities but Firenze (Florence) is certainly one of the best jewels on the necklace. What makes it so special is it’s location in the mountains along the Arno river and its history of being the centre of Italian culture for so long. When your city can boast bridges built by Michelangelo, you know it is special. This is a view of the city from a park just outside taken during a brief rain shower.
