Mexican Sunset
Across the channel from Cancún is the island of Isla Mujeres. It’s just a short boat ride to see a gem of real Mexico. The beaches are tranquil compared to Cancún and you can rent a golf cart, bike or motorcycle to explore the small island.
If you do go, on the south end of the island is a wonderful cemetery that is so different than American or European cemeteries it is worth the trip. Of course being an island, all the graves are above ground and with vibrant colors and unusual displays. Its worth the trip.

Cemetery by The Sea
Every day at 11:30 The National Aviary has an Eagle Talk. This bird was a rescued bald eagle that fell out of its nest as a baby and has been nursed to a healthy adult at the aviary. There is another docent with a bucket of food to keep the eagle from not flying or attacking the handler. They are birds of prey after all.
The National Aviary is the largest bird zoo in America and a true Pittsburgh treasure. If you plan your visit properly you can see the Eagle Talk and Penguin Feeding.

Bird in Hand
In 1981 we traveled to Nova Scotia. Those were the days of film photography and although I did some monochrome, mostly I shot 35mm color transparency film. I don’t have too many of the slides left. I either lost or had two trays of slides stolen some time in the 1980’s. I have shared some of the survivors; High Tide in Bay Of Fundy and Peggy’s Cove. This is one of the monochrome images from that trip.

Peggy’s Cove NS
I had done a number of darkroom composite pieces in monochrome but this was the first one I did in color. Color photographic paper was expensive in the 1970’s but this was a fairly easy blend since the skies in both images were similar in tone. I was able to complete it with only wasting one piece of paper. The airplane was taken at the old Pittsburgh Airport, The buildings are on Worth Street In Palm Beach Florida.

Worth Street–Palm Beach Florida
I have been fortunate to see many great performances in my lifetime. I saw Jimmi Hendrix perform at The Whiskey in Los Angeles, the farewell concert of Buffalo Springfield and Little Feat perform in a 200 seat lecture hall where Lowell George proclaimed, …”you gotta get up before we get down!” However I had never seen Peter Frampton until last night.
In a Rolling Stone interview in February, Frampton, 68, said he had a degenerative muscle disease called inclusion body myositis, also known as I.B.M. The disease causes muscles to weaken over time but generally does not affect life expectancy. He announced what will probably be his last tour and I immediately bought tickets. The concert was of course sold out.
He has been busy recording a lot of new music while he still is able. So we will still have new Peter Frampton music for a few years. He released a new blues album and played some tunes from it last night in the first public performance. It was magnificent show which he ended with the George Harrison tune, “My Guitar.” He got tearful and refuse to say goodbye Pittsburgh, just good night.

Getting ready to see Peter Frampton tonight at the Benedum Center. It has got me to thinking about all the great concerts we have seen since returning to Pittsburgh. Last January we saw The Bad Plus at The August Wilson Center and saw a virtuoso bass performance by Reid Anderson.
Reid Anderson is a bassist and composer from Minnesota. He is best known for his work in The Bad Plus with pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer Dave King. The Bad Plus has been together since 1989.

Before returning home to Pittsburgh we lived in a mountain community in the Pocono Mountains. Our current dog is not well socialized yet and doesn’t do well at dog parks. But Shadow knew how to play and he would play with Bandit until they both fell over exhausted. I miss the show these two would put on and never once hurt each other.

Bandit and Shadow
When assembling images for our show, “Moments and Souls” I forgot to include this one. If we ever decide to publish a book I will have to include it. It is a perfect moment captured in front of the Cloud Gate sculpture in Chicago’s Millennium Park. The sculpture is affectionately called The Bean by Second City residents.
This young lady placed a lot of trust in the crowd as she jumped from her boyfriend’s shoulders into their waiting arms.
