Jungle Temple

In addition to the famous temple “El Castillo”, there are over 50 others at Chichen Itsa. Some were actually private for the upper classes only. You can almost see Indiana Jones running away from this one carrying an ancient artifact.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

It can be tough being a Jew around Christmas time unless you have a Christmas Family. I was fortunate growing up and we always had a family that we hung out with at Christmas. We would get a couple of gifts, and give some, share in the meal and have some time with a brightly lit Christmas tree. However, it is well known that if you don’t have a Christmas family then you can do two things on Christmas if you are Jewish.

1) Attend the massive Jewish meeting to discuss how we will control the media for yet another year.
2) Go to a movie and eat Chinese food.

It used to be when I was a kid everything was closed on Christmas, even gas stations. Last year we decided to up the ante and instill a new tradition by going gambling and eating in a signature restaurant so we went to Atlantic City to revel in the new Revel Resort.

This year we are headed south to spend the Christmas with friends in Virginia and New Years with friends in Tampa. On January 1st we check in to our beach cottage in Clearwater Beach and will be posting from the beach! Whatever you do have a safe and happy holiday season and a Merry Christmas to all and to all Good Night.

El Castillo

Chichen Itsa is a large ancient Mayan city state in the Yucatan province of Mexico. This building is El Castillo and is considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. It is fascinating that archeologists recently discovered another temple like this one built underneath El Castillo. They believe that periodically temples were routinely built on top of other temples and therefore the Mayan culture is older than believed.

Sunset at the Blue Deck Cancun

Along the side of the Las Islas Shopping Center in Cancun is a strip of bars and cafes that face the setting sun. This sunset was taken from the famous Blue Deck during two for one happy hour and they make great and strong rum drinks.

Best Beach?

On Saturday we are venturing to Quintana Roo and our Westin Condo at Lagunamar in Cancun for a week of fun in the sun. We have never been there before. People have told me that the white sand beaches at Cancun and Islas Mujeres are the best in the world. After all it is where the Movie “Ten” was shot and all men my age can still see Bo Derreck’s slow motion trek across the sand in their mind’s eye. We shall see. This is Ka’anapali Beach in Maui County in the State of Hawaii and still my favorite white sand beach. We shall see.

Deer Kiss

This photograph was taken long before our society became scared of our own shadow. Now our government officials and media pundits constantly use fear to sell their positions. In the 1970’s there were no hand sanitizers and we didn’t know about lime disease. I can’t imagine a parent allowing their child to kiss a deer today, but back then it was no problem. Just Another Road

Yesterday I posted an image of Canyonlands NP in Utah. You don’t have to go into a park to see the natural beauty of the land. This is on a state highway headed towards Bryce Canyon National Park not far from Panguitch Utah.

Canyonlands

Out of all the states I have visited, Utah was the biggest surprise. I don’t know what I expected but it seemed that every turn of the road brought new vistas that were prettier than the last. This image was a throw away image. I never looked at it twice until today. I had such wonderful shots of the hoodoos of Bryce canyon and the delicate sculptures of Arches National Park. I never looked at this one as being special but now decades later I think it is quite a nice image. This is Canyonlands National Park near Moab Utah.
