The Squirrels of Quintana Roo

During our second walk through the Jungle on this Mexican Odyssey my wife noted that we had never seen a squirrel in the Yucatan. I think she is right although I am no expert. What you do see, almost as much as you would see squirrels, are Iguanas

They are not nearly as annoying. They don’t run around like crazy irritating every dog on the planet. They don’t throw crap at you when you are setting up a tent. They have mystique because thanks to Ray Harryhausen we think of them as dinosaurs and for some reason we all love dinosaurs.

Tulum Wildflowers

These could be weeds for all I know but I found the colors to be striking especially against the rocks of ancient ruins. The ruins are in Tulum Mexico in the state of Quintanna Roo. I love visiting Mayan ruins in Mexico, it brings out my inner Indiana Jones.

Happy Hour

Everything in a resort is geared to get you to drink. One pool bar has happy hour from 3-4 PM, another from 4 to 6 PM. Happy hour at the “sunset docks” is from 5 to 7. This one taken at the famous :Ble Docks” in Cancún. The cocktails shimmer in the setting sun. Cheers!

Mayan Dragon

The Mayan Museum in Cancún Mexico is divided in to two parts. There is an archaeological site with jungle ruins and some simulations of Mayan life. The interior of the museum has exhibits of Mayan culture and examples of artwork and crafts.

This colorful dragon was situated on the ground floor near the entrance to the ruins.

Las Damas Después del Trabajo

Around 4 pm in the afternoon these women were waiting for a van pickup back to their hometown after their work day ended. The difference in their reactions to me was astounding. Shot in La Isla shopping center on La Isla Dora.

Welcoming 2018

I try to keep my blog free of politics and full of pictures and personal observations. Last year I allowed myself to rant a little about the previous year with my New Years post. I was truly upset about fascism in The United States and still am. However I realized talk is cheap and contrary to the mission I set for this blog. I have over 2000 followers and they don’t visit to listen to me rant.

So this year I just offer you this amazingly sweet and delicious torte and wish you the best for a Healthy and Happy 2018! This was waiting for us in our hotel In Milan Italy when we arrived in 2009.

French Meatloaf

I have always liked Pâté. As a Jewish boy in Pittsburgh I discovered chopped liver which is really nothing more than liver Pâté but made with rendered chicken fat or schmaltz. In Europe I discovered terrine. People said it’s just another word for Pâté but no its not. Both are served cold or at room temperature but they are different.

Pâté is spreadable and usually spread on bread or crackers. Terrine is like cold meatloaf and can be eaten with a knife and fork. Both are usually served as appetizers but also found for lunch and as part of a dinner. It can be made from really anything and you can find vegetable terrines as well as meat varieties. One of my favorites.
