Fishing Thieves

I hail from the Pennsylvania Mountains home to, among other things, Black Bears. We know we don’t feed the Bears and that includes being careful with your garbage. If they know about your trash or you feed them, you will never get rid of them. They get lazy.

I think the same is true of fishermen in Florida. The Pelicans seem to hang out around boats and fishing piers, stealing the catch whenever they can. I saw fishermen swear at the Pelicans but others were feeding the birds their bait. Talk about mixed messages!

Tri-Color Heron

We visited the Ding Darling nature preserve on Captiva island and saw flocks of different birds including hundreds of white pelicans. This was the only Tri-Color Heron we saw and he looked a little lonely.

Dark Waters

I am not a huge fan of southern swamps. I love the birds, the gators but like Indiana Jones can live without snakes or skinks. However I do like the dark clear waters that contain great mystery in their stillness.

Lettuce Lake

There is a park in Tampa Florida called Lettuce Lake which gets it’s name from a unique vegetation that flourishes in the lake. There are many beautiful water birds including this little guy which I believe is some sort of Grebe.

Koi Pond

I must be honest, I don’t remember exactly where this was taken. There must be a million koi ponds in Hawaii…OK, I exaggerate. We did seem to visit quite a few on all of our visits to Maui and they are all beautiful. This one however is special since it also feature pink flamingos.

Morning Gull

Atlantic City is fun at dawn. Most people are sleeping or still desperately gambling. You may see a runner or bike rider or someone out for a walk, but even in Summer the beach and boardwalk are relatively deserted. The morning is reserved for fisherman and gulls and an ocassional photographer like myself.

Before the Rise

It always amazes me how quickly the sun rises. In Atlantic City, or any eastern facing beach for that matter you get a clear view of the horizon. From the time of this picture until the sun is fully out of the water is only about 5 minutes so you have to have a plan. Just me and the gull and the sea. You can buy a print of this one and see others at my commercial gallery.

Morning Flight

I love the way shore birds seem to rise up to greet the rising sun. At the beach in Atlantic City there are mostly gulls but hearing them call out to the morning sun is a great way to start any day and is soothing to the soul. You c see other images and buy prints at my commercial site.
