New York’s Central Park

I was in Central Park with family for a walk on Sunday Afternoon. I only had only lens, no tripod and had to keep up with my group. I wanted to take a picture of Central Park that captured the feeling of the place to me which was in constant movement. Bike riders, walkers,dogs, old people, young people; they were are there and all in motion. I set the exposure for 1/30th of a second and tried to hold it steady as I took a single step and stopped. Great cities have great parks. Of course New Yorkers will insist that Central Park is “the best” in the world and maybe it is. New Yorkers also say it is the largest city park but it’s not even the largest in the United States. It is special however and it’s central location makes it very accessible to people living in Manhattan and of course, tourists. The human tapestry is just as much fun as the natural setting. Hey New York, Get Some Fish!

Last Sunday in New York City was beautiful. Perfect weather, hard bodies running, families a strolling and dogs a playing provided a perfect human tapestry of relaxed summer fun. Well, perfect until you got to the lakes. In some areas where people were rowing boats the water was green,OK green but STILL water, I don’t know what this is. This is the end of one pond near Belvedere Castle. This photo is not augmented at all and is actually the way it looked. Boat rental anyone? Yes they were lined up to rent a boat to row through this muck. I have heard that the more catfish you have the less algae you have. Everyone who has ever had an aquarium knows this. When you walk across the Clemente Bridge in Pittsburgh to go to PNC Park it is closed to traffic during baseball games. A Night at the Ball Park

When I went to see the Pirates play in Pittsburgh, I only had my 50mm- 300mm zoom lens so I was unable to take the “definitive scenic shot” of PNC park. I did get a few shots that provide a little bit of the feel of being in this wonderful baseball park. I grew up with Forbes Field and hated it when the Pirates didn’t have their own field and had to share with the Steelers. This ballpark provides the same kind of feel that Forbes Field except of course with more modern conveniences and better food. See more images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial site.

Chinatown Chicago?

Most visitors think of Chicago as an ethnic melting pot. A stew of irish,Italian, hispanic,Russian,Polish and Chinese? Really? Chinese? There is a large ethnic Chinese neighborhood in Chicago located on the South Side, centered on Cermak and Wentworth Avenues, and is an example of an American Chinatown. OK, it’s not as big as the ones in New York, San Francisco or Seattle but has essentially the same stuff; authentic restaurants,dojos, food stores and shops selling everything from crap to high end objects d’art and jewelry. The Ultimate Brunch!

A few years ago a friend of ours celebrated their 50th Birthday with a brunch at the Rainbow Room atop of Rockefeller Center in New York City. You don’t have a career like mine without eating at some fabulous Restaurants. I have dined in a Belgium castle, in the mountains of Japan and at fine restaurants in many countries. I have never been a real fan on Brunch, however the spread at the Rainbow Room was something special. From fresh sushi to hand carved roast beef and lamb, this was a magnificent place to have a special brunch. When you are done you can see one of the best views in Manhattan from the Top of The Rock. Crawling under the Cloud Gate (The Bean) in Chicago provides and interesting distorted view of the sculpture and the Chicago Skyline. The Bean is the centerpiece of Millennium Park in the Chicago Loop. You can see others and buy a print of this one at my commercial gallery.

Old Montréal

When we first traveled to Québec we bypassed Montréal because we thought all of the good old French culture would be in Québec city. The old city of Québec was not disappointing and we enjoyed our time their immensely except when we got attacked by killer black flies at the waterfalls. Then we went to Montréal to see the Jazz festival. We found out that we loved Montréal. It has the old city, history and architecture but it is also an upscale modern French city with trendy restaurants, beautiful gardens and an edge to it that we really liked. The Paris of Canada. The Chicago El

Although natives might complain about it, the Chicago Transit Authority runs the best metro rail service in the United States. Yes I know DC has a good one but it is a fraction of the size compared to Chicago. Chicago lines are usually on time, relatively clean,free of graffiti and also still moderately priced.
