Sunday at the Park

There is a big difference between Central Park in New York and Milan. On any weekend both parks will be packed with people. Both parks may have a wedding going on and both will have sunbathers, walkers,runners, bikers etc. In Milan we did notice two policemen walking through the park. In New York it was more like a small army.

This scene is one you will never see in New York. In New York your dog can only be unleashed in a small fenced “Dog Park” or you will receive a summons. In Milan the police stopped to watch the dogs play.

Dog Fight

Watching seals play and fight is just like watching a dog fight. It does smell quite different though. This was captured in Monterrey California at a public pier in the mid 90’s. The seals were all over the boats and pier and that day I was glad I was not a boat owner. There were hundreds of seals, thousands of barks and groans and oh that smell!

Shy Wolf Update

For those of you that follow this blog you know that I have been trying to raise awareness and hopefully support for a unique Wolf Sanctuary in Naples Florida. .The Shy Wolf Sanctuary rescue wolves that have been bred or purchased as pets and then abused or abandoned. The sanctuary is the one of the only wolf sanctuaries in the USA where you can actually interact with these beautiful wild animals. The sanctuary is totally supported by donations and merchandise sales. The staff is made up completely of volunteers. Plan a trip while in south Florida for a real wildlife encounter. Buy a T-Shirt, help a wolf!

Florida’s Unique Shy Wolf Sanctuary

Did you ever think you could stand inside a wolf habit and pet a wolf? Well you can.

Naples Florida is home to a unique charity,The Shy Wolf Sanctuary. They rescue wolves that have been bred or purchased as pets and then abused or abandoned. The sanctuary is the only wolf sanctuary in the USA where you can actually interact with these beautiful wild animals. They are totally supported by donations and merchandise sales. The staff is made up completely of volunteers. Plan a trip while in south Florida for a real wildlife encounter.

My wife and I visited San Francisco and Monterrey California for our twentieth anniversary. A few years later we took our daughter there for a visit on the way to Los Angeles. We had told our daughter about all the Seals we had seen in San Francisco but of course when we got there the seals were not where we had left them six years earlier. The park official in San Francisco told us they were gone from the area and migrating to the channel islands. We were disappointed. A few days later after getting to Monterrey Califronia we were walking towards the aquarium and we smelled them before we saw them. They were all over the harbor, hundreds maybe thousands of Seals. They bark like dogs and fight and play like dogs but smell of the sea! I took this image while we watched them off the pier.

Our first dog Ace, was the subject of many photographic firsts for me since he was our dog when I started to work in Photography. The best known image of Ace was in a number of gallery showings and subject of an earlier post. The is my first attempt at doing a pan zoom action shot with a tripod and still a favorite and named after the movie of the same name. Even though we lived in Texas for three years, I had never been to a Rodeo before. So a couple of years ago when a Rodeo came to the Poconos I went with a couple of friends. I won’t go to another Rodeo ever. I like animals too much and dislike pompous jingoistic assholes. Watch the video and let me know if you agree.

Whenever we travel on vacation we miss our dog so we tend to glom on to other peoples dogs. These two were playing on the beach at Kaanapali beach in Maui near a Maui Family Sunday Picnic. Swim Pals

Shadow and Tilly are best of friends. They play until they drop on the land and in the water. Tilly is eyeing the ball but Shadow has learned to swim very well with a ball in his mouth. He knows if he should drop it the chase is on. See other scenes from my nature portfolio by clicking here.
