Clown Head Variations

The Ringling in Sarasota Florida is a collection of Museums and Gardens not to be missed. There are so many attractions that you will want to return for a second day. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is an excellent art museum providing hours of thought provoking viewing. The Circus Museum has the most impressive model railroad I have ever seen reflecting the Circus of the 1900’s. The museum is also filled with memorabilia like this clown head form the 1800’s. Imagine wearing this in a parade. Notice the air/eye grid in the center of the head.

Brown Pelicans at Ding Darling

The first time someone ever asked me “have you been to Ding Darling” I thought they were staring to tell me a dirty joke and just said “pardon me?” I later found out they were talking about the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Captiva island in Florida. Turns out it is actually name for a guy called Ding Darling, but that is a whole other story.

It truly is a wonderful spot and even can be appreciated on a gray day like the one we were there. But the rain held off and the birds didn’t really care that is wasn’t sunny. To see other images and buy apparel or prints, please visit my commercial gallery.

El Sombrero

Sunsets are easy images for a photographer. Nature and God provide the subject and the role of the photographer is really reduced to that of an accurate recorder and observer. What about monochrome sunsets though? Not so easy unless you are Ansel Adams. This sunset was not dramatic enough to stand on its own but a good candidate for selective color, well at least I think so. This was shot at La Isla Shopping Center in Cancún Mexico.

The Observatory at Chichén Itzá

Most people visiting Chichén Itzá are elated to see the large Pyramids and the Ball Court. As you are walking through you gain an appreciation for the wonderful Mayan culture that seemed so civilized and yet so brutal. It reminds me of our USA culture. However, the observatory really impressed me. To think that this ancient culture was also mapping stars and comments was a little surprising. Yet Mammoths and Saber Tooth Tigers still existed when the Mayan culture was flourishing.

Jungle Drums

Jungle Drums above a popular cenote near Cancun Mexico. The young leopard drummer was one of three dancing and entertaining as the more fearless visitors walked down hundreds of stairs to swim in the denote and the rest of the more sane people watched the musical performance.

Of course a number of cosplay attendees will be wearing costumes and makeup which makes it even more fun. In the future I hope that Jeannie will have some of my images like the one bellow for her autograph.

Beach Catch

More human observation. Young women strut the beach in bikinis totally aware of their image and impact they have on the males at the beach. However, young men the same age don’t have a freaking clue. This one guy looks so lost that if the other young man doesn’t catch that football it hits in in the head. This would undoubtedly be embarrassing and cause all the young ladies that he is trying to impress to giggle and laugh. Meanwhile that other dude made a great catch and held on.

Last Sunset

I have been posting a few sunset images from our hiatus to Clearwater Beach this winter. This is the last sunset picture from the trip. Next year we plan to spend two months in Dunedin Florida just 500 feet from the St. Joseph Sound so we will be adding lots of sunsets to the collection but for now adios Clearwater beach, bring on Spring!
