Candidate #6–Passionate Kiss

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of Photojournalism. This one was taken in Paris. This was the image I was capturing when young man in Candidate #5 saw me and stuck his face in my camera and laughing shouted Bienvenue a Paris! Please feel free to leave comments if you agree or disagree about including them in a “best of” list.

Candidate #5–Bienvenue a Paris

I am starting to toy with the concept of doing more exhibition photography after we relocate. During the 1970’s I worked as a photojournalist in Pittsburgh and displayed some work in museum shows including the Carnegie Museum. I stopped working in the field when I became involved in printing and publication. I retired early so I could pick up Photography again and began doing photojournalism although this time without assignments. I am looking for work that Henri Cartier-Bresson would like.

Wet Bottom Dinning

I said yesterday, the Endless Pool was a wonderful resort perk. I also love the swim up bar. It’s great to sit at the bar and suck down a Pina Colada or stroll through the pool drink in hand. However in my opinion the greatness of this idea to me is ruined by people sitting in their bathing suits munching on Tacos or Burgers. I can’t fathom it. I mean the pool is great but for gosh sakes take a couple of minutes, get out of the sun and have a great lunch and keep your french fries outta my pool!

Happy Father’s Day

My father died at age 65, way too young. I still miss him and think of him but don’t have any really good pictures of him. My parents had already moved to Florida when I started to become a competent photographer. However, I have a million pictures of my daughter and thanks to my wife a few of me and my daughter.

My daughter just a few weeks after birth,

Not on My List!

I have a life list, well it might be written down somewhere but it certainly exists inside my head. I have done a number of things on it. I have traveled to a lot of places although I still have a lot of places I want to see. I have done some things that are kind of dangerous. I have snorkeled with giant sea turtles and barracuda. I have ridden on horseback through the mountains of Tennessee, Arizona and New Mexico. As a photographer I have walked the mean streets and worked in dangerous places like steel mills on cranes and nuclear power plants and with dangerous people like zombies. I am 69 and hopefully still get to cross a lot of other things off my list. This year I will publish my first novel DreamMap.

However, this is something I will never do and never wanted to do although I bet you can you can get great pictures from up there. No thanks Mr. Larue I am ready for my crane shot now.

California Dreaming

There have only been eleven Triple Crown of horse racing winners in history. In my lifetime there have been five but Assault in 1946 and Citation in 1948 don’t really mean anything to me. I was only three years old in 1948 and TV was hardly happening yet so I knew nothing about horseback riding. The three winners I remember are Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a horse and rider. I took this picture in 1977 the year Seattle Slew won the triple crown. Having winners in 1973, 1977 and 1978 made us think we would see winners regularly. It’s been a long time so let’s go California Chrome!
