The Squirrels of Quintana Roo

During our second walk through the Jungle on this Mexican Odyssey my wife noted that we had never seen a squirrel in the Yucatan. I think she is right although I am no expert. What you do see, almost as much as you would see squirrels, are Iguanas

They are not nearly as annoying. They don’t run around like crazy irritating every dog on the planet. They don’t throw crap at you when you are setting up a tent. They have mystique because thanks to Ray Harryhausen we think of them as dinosaurs and for some reason we all love dinosaurs.

Tulum Wildflowers

These could be weeds for all I know but I found the colors to be striking especially against the rocks of ancient ruins. The ruins are in Tulum Mexico in the state of Quintanna Roo. I love visiting Mayan ruins in Mexico, it brings out my inner Indiana Jones.

Happy Hour

Everything in a resort is geared to get you to drink. One pool bar has happy hour from 3-4 PM, another from 4 to 6 PM. Happy hour at the “sunset docks” is from 5 to 7. This one taken at the famous :Ble Docks” in Cancún. The cocktails shimmer in the setting sun. Cheers!

Mayan Dragon

The Mayan Museum in Cancún Mexico is divided in to two parts. There is an archaeological site with jungle ruins and some simulations of Mayan life. The interior of the museum has exhibits of Mayan culture and examples of artwork and crafts.

This colorful dragon was situated on the ground floor near the entrance to the ruins.

Sunset at La Isla Dora

Our condo in Cancún is located on La Isla Dora on the Caribbean Sea. Across the street is a shopping center with a dock overlooking the lagoon. It is a perfect place to capture the sunset.

This Snow is On Me

Okay, yesterday I published Thinking of Mexico. Today we had our first snowfall in Pittsburgh and a little more than expected. So if you were stuck in traffic or fell on the ice…my bad. To make up for It I will share a winter picture from a few years ago. Hopefully, this will bring warmer weather?

Thinking About Mexico

While most people are thinking about Christmas and New Year’s I’m not. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Being Jewish, Christmas is not such a big thing for me and going out on New Year’s is nuts in my opinion. My father used to call it “amateur night” and it was the one night a year he didn’t drink much.

Since retirement, this is the time of year we usually escape the cold. This year we are planning three weeks in Mexico. This is me in January and I can’t wait.

Moment#8–Mother and Child

Last week Dale Schmitt and I opened our photo exhibition, Moments and Souls at the Percolate Gallery in Pittsburgh. I realize that many of you can not make it in to the gallery so over the next few weeks I will be publishing “the moments” that were my contribution to the show.

This image was taken in 2014 on a beach in Cancún Mexico where everyday there is a beautiful moment at sunset.

Moment#7–Dos Sombreros

Last week Dale Schmitt and I opened our photo exhibition, Moments and Souls at the Percolate Gallery in Pittsburgh. I realize that many of you can not make it in to the gallery so over the next few weeks I will be publishing “the moments” that were my contribution to the show.

This image was taken in 2014 on a beach near Tulum Mexico and is another example of the misdirection I use to tell a story.
