A Couple of Statues

We went to see the Ai Weiwei exhibit at the Pittsburgh Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The sculptures were quite magnificent and next week we plan to revisit the Warhol Museum to see the rest of his exhibit in Pittsburgh. He is an awe inspiring artist and if you live in Pittsburgh it is a must see. I don’t usually photograph art in museums but I was taken with how statue like the guard was. He was almost as still as the sculptures themselves. What a zen job.I hope Ai Weiwei will forgive me for photographing his art.

Circus House

The bad part about The Ringling in Sarasota Florida is that there is too much to see in one day. After touring the Circus Museum, The Gardens and The Art Museum finally made it to the Gulf and to Ca’Da’ Zan which is the house that John and Mabel Ringling lived in. We were too late to tour the inside of the house so we will have to return to see it. If the inside is a miraculous as the tile work on the outside, it will be worth the wait.

Clown Head Variations

The Ringling in Sarasota Florida is a collection of Museums and Gardens not to be missed. There are so many attractions that you will want to return for a second day. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is an excellent art museum providing hours of thought provoking viewing. The Circus Museum has the most impressive model railroad I have ever seen reflecting the Circus of the 1900’s. The museum is also filled with memorabilia like this clown head form the 1800’s. Imagine wearing this in a parade. Notice the air/eye grid in the center of the head.

Artistic Elevator

Just about everything in the Pompidou Centre expresses modern art. As you take the escalator to the higher floors you are treated to Soundscape by former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart. The elevator to the ground floor is also a work of art and changes appearance depending on the position of the ascending or descending elevator. Leonardo’s Wonderful Museum

Milan is the wonderful bustling commercial center of Italy. Some call it the New York City of Italy and as you would expect from any business center it has wonderful hotels, restaurants and a rich history. It was also the home of Leonardo Da Vinci and in the center of the city is a large plain building honoring the man and his inventions. The inside is as spectacular as the outside is plain. You can see all his inventions and how the man lived in the renaissance city of Milan. This image is one small slice of the second floor housing two magnificent globes that he made and are lighted from within. You can buy a print of this image and see others at my commercial gallery.

Absecon Light

Absecon is a city within Atlantic City New Jersey. This is not as unusual as it may seem. Beverly Hills,Burbank and Paradise Nevada are just a few of the many cities within cities. It was first incorporated in 1862 as a New Jersey town. The lighthouse is older than the town and was first lit in 1857. It is the third tallest lighthouse in the United States and beautifully maintained. You can buy a print of this image and see others at my commercial gallery by clicking here.

Anne Frankhuis Amsterdam

The only time I ever went to the Anne Frankhuis I only had a two megapixel digital camera with me. It was in 2002 and their weren’t too many cameras that higher resolution and since I didn’t have high speed film, the digital camera was the only choice. As I looked out of the window staring at the tree that she saw every day and wrote about, a group of school children were marching by on their way to school. It struck me in an instant that she witnessed this same scene every day as she was cut off from being a children. It still brings tears to my eyes.
