Texting on the Emerald Sea

Maybe they were calling for help because they were scared of the algae filled water? Maybe they were texting each other? Maybe the male was looking up instructions on how to row a boat? Whatever the reason they didn’t seem to be paying attention to each other which is what a romantic row boat ride in New York’s Central Park is all about. The Lake at Central Park

The Lake at Central Park on the West Side of Manhattan is the second largest body of water in the park after the reservoir. You can rent row boats if you are so driven or rent bikes to ride around the park. If you live in the city nothing is more fun on a summer Sunday than being in the park, if you live in the mountains where I live, it’s no big whoop. Hey New York, Get Some Fish!

Last Sunday in New York City was beautiful. Perfect weather, hard bodies running, families a strolling and dogs a playing provided a perfect human tapestry of relaxed summer fun. Well, perfect until you got to the lakes. In some areas where people were rowing boats the water was green,OK green but STILL water, I don’t know what this is. This is the end of one pond near Belvedere Castle. This photo is not augmented at all and is actually the way it looked. Boat rental anyone? Yes they were lined up to rent a boat to row through this muck. I have heard that the more catfish you have the less algae you have. Everyone who has ever had an aquarium knows this. C’mon Mayor Bloomberg spring for some fish! You can see other images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial gallery.

Flutterbye!

When my daughter was tiny she used to called them flutterbyes which, when you think of it of it is actually more descriptive than butterflies. They can be difficult to photograph but this one was very cooperative and posed for the closeup. You can see other images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial gallery.

Day Lilly

We didn’t see this flower last year. The dog we were fostering, Shadow, seemed to think they were special treats just for him. I tried taking pictures of it a couple of years ago before Shadow but could not get the color right. The gardener, my lovely wife, says that this matches the plant color perfectly. I credit Mr Sun who provided a bright overcast afternoon without hard shadows. You can see other images and buy prints of this one at my commercial gallery.

The Crown Jewel of the Summer Garden

In Spring the highlight of the garden are the Tulips and Daffodils. In Fall Mums are my favorite showy flower. There are so many flowers in summer that offer color and beauty it is hard to pick a favorite but if I had to I would pick the Lily. The flowers are large, last a long time and come in a variety of beautiful colors. This one of the best from 2013 in a deep orange or umber color. You can buy prints of this one and see others at my commercial gallery.

Giverny Geraniums

Some people think that all flowers are created equally. I mean why should a tulip that is located in Holland be any better than a tulip in my garden? A geranium is a geranium right? Well maybe so but these geraniums were growing in Monet’s water garden in Giverny near Vernon France so to me, they are special not because of the flower but because of the background. This is not available for sale because I didn’t have a tripod and had to compromise on the exposure settings and this was hand held at ISO 400 f5.6 for 1/80th of a second. He Went That Away!

I still have no idea what this was all about. One Gendarme looks totally bored while the other listens patiently while the man’s girlfriend who is out of this frame looks fervently through her purse. The Gendarmes changed direction and walked, albeit slowly in the direction the man pointed. The man and his girlfriend followed them. A robbery? Directions? No clue. This was shot in the gardens of Luxembourg Palace in Paris France. You can see other more traditional images at my European gallery by clicking here.

Sunday at the Park

Paris is like any other major city, things slow down on Sunday. In the summer people have a lot of Parks to choose from in Paris. Parc Monceau,Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin du Palais Royal are some of the better known spots. However, my favorite is the Jardin du Luxembourg adjacent to Luxembourg Palace which is the center of the French Government. It is very large with many different spaces and you can see lovers kissing, joggers jogging and some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. This image sums up Sunday in Paris to me.
