While having lunch in Lahaina we saw this shipwreck in the harbor. I couldn’t help but wonder how long it had been there, probably since the last major storm. However as I took this picture I couldn’t help but think back to Lahaina’s history when the old sea town was frequented by Whalers and Pirates instead of tourists. Lahaina Ship Wreck
We first came across this spot while driving to Honukua bay to snorkel with the giant Honu or sea turtles. There were literally hundreds of these rock stacks looking over the Pacific ocean. We convinced ourselves that it must be some sort of old Hawaiian religious ritual. We also noticed them on Haleakala and other places on the island. I did some research and they have nothing to do with Hawaii. Apparently people do this all over the world and since then I have noticed them in other places at well. This just proves that all people are creative and the human mind provides endless ways for us to exhibit our creativity. You can see more images from Maui at my commercial gallery by clicking here.
Rock Stacking on Maui
One of the advantages of staying at Ka’anapali Beach in Maui is that each day you are treated to a beautiful Sunset. Sure very rarely it may rain but one of the most difficult decisions of the day is where to view the setting sun. In summer I like to be dinning on the beach at The Barefoot Bar or Pacifico and see the setting sun as we enjoy cocktails before dinner. Just Another Maui Sunset
Although natives might complain about it, the Chicago Transit Authority runs the best metro rail service in the United States. Yes I know DC has a good one but it is a fraction of the size compared to Chicago. Chicago lines are usually on time, relatively clean,free of graffiti and also still moderately priced. We were visiting Monterey California on our way to attend my cousin’s wedding in Los Angeles. We stopped in Monterrey to see the world famous aquarium and as we were walking towards the aquarium we passed the harbor and saw that the seals had taken over. Boat owners could not have possibly gotten to their boats on some of the yachts there were dozens of seals and boy do they smell like dead fish. They were all over the harbor, hundreds maybe thousands of Seals. They bark like dogs and fight and play like dogs but smell of the sea! I took this image while we watched them off the pier. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of my first year in the blogosphere and this is the final post of celebrating my first week by revisiting my first posts. Tomorrow i will repost my very first blog and then it’s on to new stuff!
There is a scenic drive in California that is not to be missed It is called 17-Mile Drive and is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula. There are many scenic views along the drive like the Lone Cypress and the Famous pebble Beach Golf Course. There is a small island off shore that is called Seal island which was one of the highlights for me because I love seeing wildlife in a natural environment. Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead at Madison Square Garden in September 1993. This photo was taken the last time I saw the Grateful Dead and near the end of their historic run in rock and roll. I still enjoy listening to old Grateful Dead concerts occasionally but have no desire to ever see any of the cover bands. I saw the real thing and I don’t want to spoil that memory. Continuing with this week’s anniversary celebration of my first year of blogging, this was originally published in February 0f 2012.
I had the privilege of being a journalist on the original 1978 “Dawn of the Dead” and have offered some of the behind the scenes images for sale on my commercial site. I don’t have too many of Gaelyn Ross who was the pretty blonde star of the movie. She was hard to get to unless she was in a shot since every male extra and crew member on the set were acting like male dogs. It turns out she became a pretty good documentary filmmaker who made Killing Kasztner in 2008 among others. Gaelyn Ross
In 1978 I had the unique opportunity to cover the making of Dawn of the Dead by Pittsburgh legend George Romero in the Monroeville Mall. I was on location for the now defunct Pittsburgh Magazine. In 2008 I began publishing these photos to my commercial site and was truly amazed at the response from around the world. There are thousands and thousands of fans around the world. I was asked last year to do an interview for the British magazine Undeadzine which was published last September. More recently I did an interview for the worlds only Catalonian Language Zombie site which you can read here.

I hate the winter. I am not a winter sports enthusiast. Today I will have to put on long underwear just to be able to walk my dog in 4 degree weather. My mustache will ice up. My dog will start to whimper after a while because of the salt on the roads and the cold. I would much rather be in Maui today watching this guy doing his thing, snorkeling, swimming and watching a beautiful sunset while eating fish that was caught the same day. Sigh.
