Sunday at the Park

There is a big difference between Central Park in New York and Milan. On any weekend both parks will be packed with people. Both parks may have a wedding going on and both will have sunbathers, walkers, runners, bikers etc. In Milan we did notice two policemen walking through the park. In New York it was more like a small army.

This scene is one you will never see in New York. In New York your dog can only be unleashed in a small fenced “Dog Park” or you will receive a summons. In Milan the police stopped to watch the dogs play.

Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation

The back view of Notre Dame de Paris offers a splendid view of the famous flying buttresses that support the cathedral. Almost hidden behind the park benches and hedges is a walkway to the end of Île de la Cité. Here you will find the Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation.

This simple monument is not so much a Holocaust memorial but specifically a memorial to the more than 200,000 people who were deported from Vichy France to the Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Designed by French architect Georges-Henri Pingusson (1894–1978), the memorial was inaugurated by Charles de Gaulle on April 12, 1962.It is a simple design and takes just a few minutes to visit yet most people have no idea what it is or why it is there.

Monet’s House at Giverny

The Gardens at Giverny are so lush that unless you are on the main path it is easy to loose sight of the house. This is a view of the house from The Water Garden and you can only see the top floor.

In Flight

I think most people as children want to be able to fly. We dream about it and some actually jump out of airplanes and off cliffs with the appropriate equipment just to be able to simulate the experience of flight. As a photographer capturing birds in flight has been a goal for decades and I have captured a few. However many times the sky is boring behind the bird so this time I just replaced the sky with one I like better.

Yet Another Mexican Sunset

Depending on your location in Quintana Roo you will either get beautiful sunrises or sunsets. Our condo faces the East and I am sure at 5:30 there were beautiful sunrises. However, at sunset we would travel to the docks to catch an amazing colorful end to our day. This is just an average sunset but still better than none.

Dog Fight

Watching seals play and fight is just like watching a dog fight. It does smell quite different though. This was captured in Monterrey California at a public pier in the mid 90’s. The seals were all over the boats and pier and that day I was glad I was not a boat owner. There were hundreds of seals, thousands of barks and groans and oh that smell!

Chicago Retrospective

About six years ago my Daughter moved to Chicago and made it her home. Later this year she will be married at a Chicago Landmark, The Palmer House Hotel. Of course Mom and Dad have traveled there a lot over the last six years and thus I have collected what I think are a few decent images. Later this week we will make another journey to America’s “Second City”. Here are some of the better images and most are available for purchase as prints.

Two Year Blog Anniversary

WordPress sent me a message saying that today was my four year Anniversary. Technically this is correct. When I first started blogging I signed up for WordPress and Blogger. After a year and a half of sporadic blogging on Blogger I had seven followers. I realized, it just wasn’t working or worth it. After a couple of months on hiatus I decided to give WordPress another try. This was my second post in February 2012. Since then I have close to 1000 followers and average 1000 views a month. I try to post every day. Thanks to all who visit here and especially those who comment and like the posts. It is a method I use to drive attention to my commercial site but also a way to share my photography and my view of the world.

Garden Sculpture

People visit Bok Towers in Florida to listen to the amazing carillon played by world renown muscians while strolling through the beautiful gardens. The gardens also contain a wide variety of wonderful sculptures by artists from around the world. This one caught my eye and fit perfectly in the garden landscape.

Sago Palm

After being in Florida for a few months the excitement of seeing palm trees everywhere wears off. This is especially true in Tampa this year where they are literally putting Palm Trees everywhere due to the IIFA being held at Raymond James Stadium. They are trying to make the whole area look like Bollywood. However, I only saw this sort of palm in a couple of places. It is called a Sago Palm and I saw them at the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo and this one on a walkway at Bok Towers.
