I love the way shore birds seem to rise up to greet the rising sun. At the beach in Atlantic City there are mostly gulls but hearing them call out to the morning sun is a great way to start any day and is soothing to the soul. You c see other images and buy prints at my commercial site.
Atlantic City Beach
The beach at Atlantic City for a long time has been considered one of the best beaches on the East Coast. I remember going there as a teen and was just amazed at how wide the beach was and the fine white texture of the sand. The city has gone through a lot of changes since my youth. There were no casinos when I worked there for a Summer and now casinos outnumber salt water taffy shops. However, the beach has been a constant and now thanks to conservationists will continue to be so. After Hurricane Sandy they planted all these beach grasses. These will help to hold the dunes in place and protect the beach from erosion. Way to go New Jersey! You can see other images and buy prints on my commercial gallery.
Morning Jog
This is the current end of the Boardwalk in Atlantic City just beyond the Revel Resort. The Boardwalk is one of the best walking/running experiences a person can have. It is even and flat and not made of concrete and it goes on for miles. Your knees don’t hurt when you are done like they might after concrete. Thos was take moments after sunrise. Boardwalk Bike Ride
When you get up to take pictures of a sunrise you typically don’t see too many people. Of course as I passed the casino at Revel there were still people gambling and the hotel security people were posted at their stations trying to stay awake. On the boardwalk there was only this bike rider and me enjoying the morning spectacular. You can buy a print of this image at my commercial gallery.
Time to Revel at Revel!
Recently my wife and I celebrated our 42nd Wedding Anniversary (June 6). Last week my wife retired from her job as a High School French Teacher. I can’t wait to see what the next chapter in our life will be although it will probably begin with the publication of my first novel. We are now editing the novel together. In any case these events require a little celebration so tomorrow we are off to Revel in Atlantic City and have a spa day on Wednesday at the Bask Spa. Why, because we deserve it. I am sure there will be some new pictures when we return.Meanwhile please check out my other images at my commercial gallery.
Giverny Geraniums
Some people think that all flowers are created equally. I mean why should a tulip that is located in Holland be any better than a tulip in my garden? A geranium is a geranium right? Well maybe so but these geraniums were growing in Monet’s water garden in Giverny near Vernon France so to me, they are special not because of the flower but because of the background. This is not available for sale because I didn’t have a tripod and had to compromise on the exposure settings and this was hand held at ISO 400 f5.6 for 1/80th of a second. Chicago Mounties?
I never did get an answer as to who are these people? I took this picture years ago near Michigan Ave and the Water Tower. I have never seen them since. I don’t think they are mounted police and there wasn’t anything special going on in the city when we were there for the Print Show at McCormick place. So who are these people and why are they dressed like colonial soldiers? If you want to see other images from my Chicago gallery , click here.
The French Open and Pari-Roller
This weekend is the finals of the French Open. It is also Friday and time for the world’s largest skating event called Pari-Roller. Similar events occur in other european cities, but none as large as the Paris event which happens every Friday night but should be special tonight because of the French Open. The skaters begin to gather at Gare Montparnasse around 9:30 and get the week’s skating route. At 10 P.M. close to 10,000 skaters have gathered and begin to skate through the city until 3 A.M. Some dress in costumes, some are part of teams and some just come to watch, like me. This guy was the best and you can buy a T-shirt by clicking here.
My Favorite Model
I have had a wonderful life so far and over the years photographed a lot of people. However, my favorite model has always been my wonderful bride. This year we celebrate our 42nd year of marriage and we are still happy and in love. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to work? This is her in the early 1970’s near Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Chinatown Chicago?
Most visitors think of Chicago as an ethnic melting pot. A stew of irish,Italian, hispanic,Russian,Polish and Chinese? Really? Chinese? There is a large ethnic Chinese neighborhood in Chicago located on the South Side, centered on Cermak and Wentworth Avenues, and is an example of an American Chinatown. OK, it’s not as big as the ones in New York, San Francisco or Seattle but has essentially the same stuff; authentic restaurants, dojos, food stores and shops selling everything from crap to high end objects d’art and jewelry.
