After watching John Medeski play the piano and I can’t help but wonder if they have to retune the Steinway after every performance. This picture was taken at Medeski, Martin and Wood playing the Sherman Theather in Stroudsburg Pennsylvania on October 11,2012. Jazz Hands
Last night we saw Medeski, Martin and Wood at the Sherman Theather in Stroudsburg, PA. I have been a fan for many years but never saw them play. The show was awesome and even better because if we had stayed home we would of watched the Steelers lose. Chris Wood is a an amazing bass player and really holds the trio together. Not only is he fun to listen to but he is very expressive physically. You feel the upright bass is welded to his body as he moves around the stage. Wetlands is the new politically correct word for a swamp. Just sounds better doesn’t it? Wetlands in Pennsylvania are homes to bears, snakes and migratory birds and a valuable water source. Pennsylvania Wetlands
It is fall in the Pocono Mountains and the leaves are falling down creating splashes of color everywhere. While the autumn is beautiful, the leaves can create a huge mess. Sometimes there are a lot of wet leaves on a mountain road and they are easy to skid on or slip on while walking. Hopefully it doesn’t snow too early because a heavy snowfall on top of leaves equals one colossal cluster ____. However it is all worth it to see the crown of natures beauty. Falling Leaves
I was out taking pictures of fall foliage and saw the reflections of the trees in the pond. I thought about Monet and wanted to do something that was homage to his style. The first image I took had extreme depth of field and the leaves in the pond were as sharp as the rocks. The result was a pretty but cluttered image and not at all Monet like. I then experimented with depth of field but to no avail. I could get the leaf reflection to be less sharp but then some of the rocks and the background would be unsharp and destroy the eye-flow. So I used mother nature and waited for the wind. I used f-32 and a slow shutter speed so the reflections become blurred through movement. Maybe not as good as Monet but a worthy salute anyhow. Blowing in the Wind
Around the corner from my house is this little pond that is part of the Maple Swamp. Swamp in the Pocono Mountains means something different than it does in the South or near the equator. Sure we have the occasional Black Bear and you have to watch out for a rare copperhead but there are no large snakes and alligators.This is my neighborhood in the fall, you can buy a print at my commercial gallery by clicking here.
Autumn in the Poconos
Although I consider myself to be first and foremost a photojournalist, I like all sorts of photography. I love photographing animals,sports contests,concerts and scenic views. Sometimes though, the devil is in the detail. Macro and closeup photography provides a different perspective and view of the world. I love photographing architectural patterns and closeup photography of plants and foliage. One of these succulent leafs is beautiful all by itself but when you photograph the foliage of many, the plant itself changes into a natural mosaic. Leaf Patterns at the Garfield Conservatory
If you drive to Lake Como or take a Bus or Boat you might miss this great scene. This is the side of a sculpture you see as descending the stairs from the Lake Como Train Station. It is called the Monumento ai Caduti per Servicio and dedicated to disabled service people. It was created by Francesco Somaini and is actually a sculpture of two hands but from this angle it looks like the City is waving hello. In the center of Milan is Il Duomo di Milano which is one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. It seems to me that most of the Cathedrals that I have visited are hosts to crowds of people and flocks of pigeons. Milan is no different, beggars will sell you food to feed the pigeons and although I personally don’t feed the birds, there is no shortage of people who seem to find this practice exciting and entertaining.
