The Padlocks on the Seine In Paris

When we visited Paris last summer we knew that there was a tradition of people putting Padlocks on the bridge at Pont de l’Archevêché. Our travels did not take us over that bridge this time but we saw the that there were also locks on the bridge at Pont des Arts. You can read more about this in the David Lebovitz article on the subject called The Padlocks of Paris.. Basically lovers put a padlock on the bridge to celebrate their love. Officials seem to be letting people do this on these two bridges and I know next time we visit we will have a padlock with us. You can see more prints of Europe in my gallery by clicking here.

A Pan Asian Great in Orléans France

Our last stop in Europe was Orléans France. We had had a number of great pan asian meals in Paris including awesome Sushi. As we were touring Orléans it was way past lunch time and we were studying our map to try to figure out where all the restaurants were. A beautiful young French woman asked if we were lost and we said,no just hungry. My wife wanted to speak French to her and she wanted to speak english to us. She told us she was headed towards “restaurant row” and she would guide us. After walking with her and chatting for about ten minutes we came out in an area loaded with restaurants. Park Kiss

What causes a couple to suddenly kiss? The warm sun, a beautiful sunny day, the joy of being alive or is it something sexual. As I work on my new book, I am finding out that people kiss for a variety of reasons and most of them unrelated to their loins. Sure passionate kisses are part of romance but people kiss as a form of greeting or when saying goodbye. People hug and kiss to express joy and to console people in moments of sadness. Paris is the City of Lights and nighttime seems to be a social lubricant for kissing. As I am working on my book, I also realize that night time kisses in public are harder to capture. There is something about Paris that causes people to kiss. People think of Paris as the most romantic city in the world. Like most big cities it has its share of crime, beggars,street hustlers,sidewalk vendors and shady people. However, when touring Paris with your spouse or significant other you just can’t help but kiss more. Maybe it is in the water or the wine? One of the best reasons to travel through France is the food. Sure the gardens are great and monuments are spectacular but the food rivals both. Even a simple meal in a Cafe is special and the food on the street is also worthy. Items that can only be purchased in high class restaurants in the United States are common in France like duck and rabbit. This is some crispy succulent Duck Confit at a Paris Bistro. The world’s largest skating event takes place every Friday night in Paris France, it is called Pari-Roller. Similar events occur in other european cities, but none as large as the Paris event. The skaters begin to gather at Gare Montparnasse around 9:30 and get the week’s skating route. At 10 P.M. close to 10,000 skaters have gathered and begin to skate through the city until 3 A.M. Some dress in costumes, some are part of teams and some just come to watch, like me. This guy was the best and you can buy a T-shirt by clicking here.

Montmartre in Paris

last year was my third visit to Paris France. I had never made it to Montmartre and was excited to see the Basilica. I wasn’t concerned about the hills, heck I am from Pittsburgh. When we exited the metro station at Abbesse we had no idea about the steps. There were no escalators but rather some large metal elevator door with hordes of people so we started up the steps when we were almost exhausted we saw a sign that said 100 more steps to the top and we looked at each other and laughed. Later after we had handled the steps and climbed almost to the top of the hill I took this image of a typical Montmartre street which you can purchase by clicking here.
