Sunset at the Blue Deck Cancun

Along the side of the Las Islas Shopping Center in Cancun is a strip of bars and cafes that face the setting sun. This sunset was taken from the famous Blue Deck during two for one happy hour and they make great and strong rum drinks.

On Hiatus

I started this blog on 02/06/2012 with a post on Captain Beefheart. Since then I have added 500 followers not including those that follow on Red Bubble Twitter,Digg,Facebook,Pinterest etc. I have published 575 posts and over 200 hundred articles for EHOW. Counting EHOW and Red Bubble views my works have been viewed by over 2 million times in 35 countries.

All that said, I am most proud of the 500 followers of this blog. I only know a few of you personally and also am connected to those people through Facebook, telephone and face to face visits. However the rest of you check in regularly, like and comment on my posts and share with me your own unique view of the world. Thanks for reading, thanks for posting and have a wonderful holiday season!

As for us, next week in Cancun, home a week and than off to Florida for two months. It’s time to get out from being in front of the computer and back behind the lens for a while. So although posts will be erratic over the next couple of months they will all include new images from a variety of location so please stay tuned. This is a SUNRISE, not a SUNSET.

Canali di Milano

Milan was a wonderful part of our European tour a few years and we met great people, saw fantastic sites and ate exquisite cuisine. On one of our last days there we were looking for something off the beaten track and saw in a tour book a small note that said not to miss the canals of Milan. I thought Milan has Canals? That’s crazy, so off we went. This is not Venice or Bruges but the canals are lined with antique shops, clubs and bistros and offer short canal boat tours. The colorful buildings help to create an interesting ambiance.

Joshua Tree California

Joshua Tree National Park is located north and east from Palm Springs California. It is a rustic and beautiful high desert spot with a very diverse horticulture. It is named after the unusual and plentiful Joshua Trees that are all through the park. The terrain is rugged high desert so bring your real hiking shoes.

Koi Pond

I must be honest, I don’t remember exactly where this was taken. There must be a million koi ponds in Hawaii…OK, I exaggerate. We did seem to visit quite a few on all of our visits to Maui and they are all beautiful. This one however is special since it also feature pink flamingos.

Jules Verne Carousel–Orléans France

I loved Jules Verne when I was a kid and discovered Science Fiction through him. There are a number of Carousels throughout France that have the space ship to the moon, the hot air balloon and other objects from Verne’s books. We saw two on our last trip, one in Paris at the Montparnasse Train Station and this one in Orléans France. Buy this image and see others on my European Gallery by clicking here.

Monet’s Garden at Giverny

It was difficult taking pictures in Giverny. There were a lot of people and the garden had a lot of shade. I was without a tripod and it was challenging to get the correct depth of field. This plant had some light on it making it one of the “keepers” from the shoot. I am assuming this plant is holly?

Monet’s water garden in Giverny is located just outside of Vernon France. It is a short day trip from Paris and worth the train and bus ride. The house and gardens are unique and stunning and kept in the same way that they were during the time of Claude Monet. If you have the time it is worth spending a night since the entire area is really a tribute to nature and art. You can see other images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial gallery.

Le Canard Confit

I have always been an adventurous eater. When I worked for Konica and visited Japan, I adopted Sushi and Sashimi as it were the food of my culture and became slightly obnoxious about making sure everyone loved it as well. When I worked for Agfa and began to visit Europe regularly I was always careful to order foods that I couldn’t easily get in the United States and one of those was Duck Confit. I always thought it meant Duck leg but not so. It referrers to the method of curing the duck and cooking it in its own fat.

I have found that it is not easy to do correctly and frequently it is greasy. In the USA, I will only order it the best French Restaurants. However in France or the Benelux countries even a small cafe like this one knows how to make it. You can see other images and buy prints or apparel on my commercial site.
