Monet’s Garden at Giverny

It was difficult taking pictures in Giverny. There were a lot of people and the garden had a lot of shade. I was without a tripod and it was challenging to get the correct depth of field. This plant had some light on it making it one of the “keepers” from the shoot. I am assuming this plant is holly?

Monet’s water garden in Giverny is located just outside of Vernon France. It is a short day trip from Paris and worth the train and bus ride. The house and gardens are unique and stunning and kept in the same way that they were during the time of Claude Monet. If you have the time it is worth spending a night since the entire area is really a tribute to nature and art. You can see other images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial gallery.

Le Canard Confit

I have always been an adventurous eater. When I worked for Konica and visited Japan, I adopted Sushi and Sashimi as it were the food of my culture and became slightly obnoxious about making sure everyone loved it as well. When I worked for Agfa and began to visit Europe regularly I was always careful to order foods that I couldn’t easily get in the United States and one of those was Duck Confit. I always thought it meant Duck leg but not so. It referrers to the method of curing the duck and cooking it in its own fat.

I have found that it is not easy to do correctly and frequently it is greasy. In the USA, I will only order it the best French Restaurants. However in France or the Benelux countries even a small cafe like this one knows how to make it. You can see other images and buy prints or apparel on my commercial site.

Surf Banana!

Why is there a banana on top of the lifeguard station? Was it rescued form the surf? It is a good luck symbol? I guess I will never know but baking in the sun like that I am sure it wasn’t anything I would eat! See other images and buy prints at my commercial site.

The Ageless Pier

The Steel Pier has withstood many a challenge over the years including storm after storm that have attempted to destroy it. There are no more “Famous Diving Horses” which have been replaced at one end of the pier by helicopter rides and the Darwin Awards favorite, “The Slingshot” but the pier lives on and seems almost ageless. No matter your age, if you are in Atlantic City you gotta check out the pier! You can see other images and buy prints at my commercial gallery.

Atlantic City Beach

The beach at Atlantic City for a long time has been considered one of the best beaches on the East Coast. I remember going there as a teen and was just amazed at how wide the beach was and the fine white texture of the sand. The city has gone through a lot of changes since my youth. There were no casinos when I worked there for a Summer and now casinos outnumber salt water taffy shops. However, the beach has been a constant and now thanks to conservationists will continue to be so. After Hurricane Sandy they planted all these beach grasses. These will help to hold the dunes in place and protect the beach from erosion. Way to go New Jersey! You can see other images and buy prints on my commercial gallery.

Morning Jog

This is the current end of the Boardwalk in Atlantic City just beyond the Revel Resort. The Boardwalk is one of the best walking/running experiences a person can have. It is even and flat and not made of concrete and it goes on for miles. Your knees don’t hurt when you are done like they might after concrete. Thos was take moments after sunrise. The French Open and Pari-Roller

This weekend is the finals of the French Open. It is also Friday and time for the world’s largest skating event called Pari-Roller. Similar events occur in other european cities, but none as large as the Paris event which happens every Friday night but should be special tonight because of the French Open. The skaters begin to gather at Gare Montparnasse around 9:30 and get the week’s skating route. At 10 P.M. close to 10,000 skaters have gathered and begin to skate through the city until 3 A.M. Some dress in costumes, some are part of teams and some just come to watch, like me. This guy was the best and you can buy a T-shirt by clicking here.

Schwangau Bavaria

Most people travel to this part of Bavaria to see the famous castle Neuschwanstein and the lesser known Hohenschwangau Palace. Neuschwanstein was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria who was also known as the Mad King, But what brought Ludwig to Schwangau in the first place? Maybe it was this view which is the view of Schwangau from the Western side of the castle. You can see other images and buy a print of this one at my european gallery.
