Looking Forward to The National Aviary

Now that I am fully vaccinated I am looking forward to visiting my favorite places. Near the top of that list is The National Aviary. We are very fortunate in Pittsburgh to house the largest Aviary in The United States. We are members and usually visit 4 to 5 times a year. We have not been there in over a year due to COVID19

Improving an Image With Selective Color

I have mostly been using selective color to add emphasis or control eye flow with images that actually stand on their own in full color. Improving a good image. An example would be Girl In The Blue Dress. However it is possible to use the technique to save an image which is not usable in its original form.

I took this picture in Gardin des Tuelleries in Paris France. I love the subject. The guy has been captured in a perfect runner’s motion and is quite interesting and distinctive looking. It is a good moment. However as you can see in the original the surroundings are completely distracting rendering the image not worth of publication even on this blog. I tired just cropping but it still was too “busy” to be considered acceptable. However cropping it to a square and using selective color techniques improved and saved the image creating a successful decisive moment which is always the goal of my photography.

Forever Young

This was taken at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City in June of 2013. I can see these two like myself riding the Wild Mouse when we were young. Now just glad to be out in the sun, walking and remembering what Atlantic City once was. I worked one summer during the 60’s in Atlantic City driving a Blue Chair on the Boardwalk. The city is constantly reinventing itself, I hope it survives. It has a great beach and boardwalk .

Remembering Live Music In Pittsburgh

In the summer of 2019 we saw a few concerts. The last one was Peter Frampton at The Benedum Center. We had a busy fall and winter traveling to Europe for a chunk of it and then we traveled to Palm Desert in the beginning of 2020. Never realizing we had seen our last live concert for a while. We already had tickets for 2020 for the symphony and Ringo StarBe which were refunded due to the pandemic. I can’t wait to feel safe enough to sit inside a venue and listen to live music. Until them memories and recorded music will have to do.

Selective Color Project–Lunch in Karlsplatz Park Vienna

Another great candidate for my selective color project. A gray afternoon in Vienna made this young lady the only color in the Karlsplatz Park in Vienna.

The August Wilson Center

I hope the August Wilson Center survives the pandemic crisis. It is a wonderful small venue to see concerts and plays. The last concert we saw there was The Bad Plus. I can’t wait until we can attend again. I love listening to live music. If you can afford it please make a donation to keep this wonderful Pittsburgh Institution afloat.

Reflections of Praha (Prague)

I keep revisiting my photos of Praha (Prague). During our five days in Prague I took as many photographs as I did in the previous ten days of our trip. I found the city and its people to be fascinating. This is a reflection in the base of a fantastic dynamic sculpture of Franz Kafka by artist David Černý.
