The 27th Anniversary of D-Day

OK!. OK! I know that today we are celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion and liberation of France. However to me today is also my 43rd Wedding Anniversary. I am not sure if we realized when we were married that it was the 27th Anniversary of D-Day but it sure makes it easy to remember our anniversary. Below is a picture of my bride shooting cupid’s arrow out of my tripod and some more pictures of us back in the day. Happy D-Day!

Friday Night Fever!

This weekend marks the mid point of the French Open. It is also Friday and time for the world’s largest skating event called Pari-Roller. Similar events occur in other european cities, but none as large as the Paris event which happens every Friday night but should be special tonight because of the French Open. The skaters begin to gather at Gare Montparnasse around 9:30 and get the week’s skating route. At 10 P.M. close to 10,000 skaters have gathered and begin to skate through the city until 3 A.M. Some dress in costumes, some are part of teams and some just come to watch, like me. This guy was the best and you can buy a T-shirt by clicking here.

Provincetown MA 1983

We only visited P-Town once in 1983 when my wife was pregnant with our daughter. We ate at a bistro called Cafe Blasé where the waiter scolded my wife for having a beer which was probably one of the two that she had in nine months. He had the audacity to pat my wife’s pregnant belly while he scolded her. I held my temper but had joy in leaving no tip.

My wife needed to take a lot of naps back then since it was her 6th month of pregnancy and I went off to capture a few snapshots. Yesterday a Federal Judge applied the 14th Amendment and struck down Pennsylvania’s law prohibiting gay marriage. The judge did more than that though she supported the fact that in the USA you are ALLOWED to be different. It made me think of this picture.

The Pigeons of The Cathedral Santa Maria Nascente

In the plaza outside the The Cathedral Santa Maria Nascente in Milan the Pigeons gather just as they do outside other great cathedrals around the world. I wonder if Pigeons are Catholic? I myself have never been one to feed pigeons. I don’t think they need any survival help from me. However photographing this family was fun. I love the different expressions; the thrill of the young girl, the calmness of the father, the trying to be cool teen and the wonder of the boy are all in this single image.

Sunday at the Park

There is a big difference between Central Park in New York and Milan. On any weekend both parks will be packed with people. Both parks may have a wedding going on and both will have sunbathers, walkers, runners, bikers etc. In Milan we did notice two policemen walking through the park. In New York it was more like a small army.

This scene is one you will never see in New York. In New York your dog can only be unleashed in a small fenced “Dog Park” or you will receive a summons. In Milan the police stopped to watch the dogs play.

SciFi World Magazine Interview

Last year I was interviewed by Catalonian author and blogger Sergi Escarmis Costa concerning my coverage of Dawn of the Dead in 1978. The interview is now available in the Spanish edition of SciFi WORLD Magazine. I am hopefully that eventually it will also be available in english. Just click on the link below to read the Spanish interview.

Lunchtime In Milano

As we strolled the streets of the bustling city of Milan in Italy we noticed many restaurants. I guess in Italy they are all Italian restaurants. Even the Chinese restaurants in Milan were set with white table cloths. This place however was surely upscale and minutes before the noon opening we could see the waiters discussing their strategy as they made sure they were ready.

Between Shots

Here is another one that has never been published for my passionate Facebook and Blog Zombie fans. As most of you know, I was on the location of Dawn of the Dead as a journalist for two nights and have published many of the better images on my commercial site.

This is George Romero directing his principal actors between shots on location in Monroeville Mall in 1978.

Will number 2 be Number 20?

The New York Yankees began the practice of retiring number with Lou Gehrig in 1939. To date they have retired 19 numbers but it probably won’t be too long before that number is 21. They have retired more number than any other sports team. For example the Pittsburgh Steelers have only retired one number for Ernie Stautner who wasn’t even on any of their championship teams. My question is which number gets retired first, number 42 (Mariano Rivera) or number 2 (Derrick Jeter)? Comment if you have an opinion. This is Jeter during spring training this year which will be his last season.
